Some of these families drive hours to unsuccessfully search for more formula, and prices for online sellers are sky rocketing.<\/p>\n<p>The shortage has prompted Republicans to argue that President Joe Biden\u2019s administration has not done enough to increase production.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">The formula shortage is a national crisis, hitting poor moms and kids the hardest. <\/p>\n<p>The FDA needs to immediately step up, be transparent, explain how it will get production restarted, and give parents a timeline. <\/p>\n<p>And the Biden Administration needs to take this seriously.<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Tom Cotton (@TomCottonAR) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/TomCottonAR\/status\/1523658922779082753?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">May 9, 2022<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Republican Utah Sen. Mitt Romney accused the FDA and Department of Agriculture of being too slow in their responses to the crisis, and in a statement Tuesday, FDA Commissioner Dr. Robert M. Califf said that the administration is doing \u201ceverything in our power to ensure there is adequate product available where and when they need it.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"css-s99gbd StoryBodyCompanionColumn\">\n<div class=\"css-53u6y8\">\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">\u201cWe recognize that many consumers have been unable to access infant formula and critical medical foods they are accustomed to using and are frustrated by their inability to do so,\u201d Califf <a class=\"css-yywogo\" title=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/www.fda.gov\/news-events\/press-announcements\/fda-takes-important-steps-improve-supply-infant-and-specialty-formula-products\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">said in the statement<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The FDA did not immediately respond to a request for comment from The Daily Wire.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe FDA issued a recall to make sure that they\u2019re meeting their obligation to protect the health of Americans \u2014 including babies who, of course, were receiving or taking this formula \u2014 and ensure safe products are available.
