Richard Blumenthal introduced a sweeping abortion bill cosponsored by 47 Senate Democrats that would nullify parental consent laws nationwide.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/05\/11\/richard-blumenthal-sex-selective-abortion-womens-health-protection-act\/\">Women\u2019s Health Protection Act<\/a> would <a href=\"https:\/\/www.congress.gov\/117\/bills\/s1975\/BILLS-117s1975is.xml\">make<\/a> elective abortion a <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/05\/05\/democrats-legalize-third-trimester-abortions\/\">right<\/a> in the first six months of pregnancy and would force states to allow abortions in the last trimester, after the point at which a child can survive outside the womb, in cases where a healthcare worker finds pregnancy could harm a mother\u2019s mental or physical health. The legislation would also automatically strike down all state laws restricting <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/05\/06\/jen-psaki-joe-biden-abortion-white-house\/\">abortions<\/a> in the first six months of pregnancy and does not include exceptions for parental notification or consent laws, which require parents to be notified of or grant permission for their underage child to have an abortion.<\/p>\n<p>Underage patients need a parent\u2019s consent to get an abortion in 21 states, while ten states require one or more parents to be notified of their child\u2019s abortion and six states require both, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.guttmacher.org\/state-policy\/explore\/parental-involvement-minors-abortions\">according<\/a> to the Guttmacher Institute.<\/p>\n<p>Republican Maine Sen. Susan <a href=\"https:\/\/www.collins.senate.gov\/newsroom\/senators-collins-and-murkowski-introduce-bill-to-codify-supreme-court-decisions-on-reproductive-rights_roe-v-wade-and-planned-parenthood-v-casey\">Collins<\/a> and Republican Alaska Sen. Lisa <a href=\"https:\/\/www.murkowski.senate.gov\/press\/release\/senators-collins-and-murkowski-introduce-bill-to-codify-supreme-court-decisions-on-reproductive-rights_roe-v-wade-and-planned-parenthood-v-casey\">Murkowski<\/a> cited the bill\u2019s broad language and failure to allow parental consent laws as part of their reason for refusing to vote for it in a joint February 28 press release.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">I have always supported a woman\u2019s right to choose, the precedents established by Roe v.
