The bill will go into effect in July 2022.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m just not comfortable having that type of agenda get special treatment in my state,\u201d DeSantis said at the time of the signing.<\/p>\n<p>SB 4-C targets the Reedy Creek Improvement District, which provides utilities and other services to Walt Disney World; Reedy Creek, Lake Buena Vista, and Bay Lake all were founded on May 12, 1967.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cReedy Creek, which has a permanent population of about 50, as well as its own board of supervisors and fire department, allows Disney to construct new buildings and expand its parks without having to adhere to state or county regulations related to construction, wastewater management and drainage,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/florida-senate-passes-bill-to-eliminate-disneys-special-tax-district-11650473902\">The Wall Street Journal<\/a> noted. \u201cIt encompasses four theme parks, two water parks, a sports complex and hotels, stores and restaurants.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou\u2019ll notice you never see potholes when you drive up to Walt Disney World. That\u2019s because Disney doesn\u2019t have to wait for the county to come fix them,\u201d David Ramba, executive director of the Florida Association of Special Districts, told the Journal. \u201cReedy Creek is probably the most efficient local government in Florida, because it\u2019s not a typical bureaucracy. It\u2019s run like a business.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The bill states \u201cany independent special district established by a special act prior to the date of ratification of the Florida Constitution on November 5, 1968,and which was not reestablished, re-ratified, or otherwise reconstituted by a special act or general law after November 5, 1968, is dissolved effective June 1, 2023.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The complaint dismissed by U.S. District Court Judge Cecilia Altonaga originated from three residents of Orange and Osceola counties who claimed S.B. 4-C unconstitutionally threatened residents with higher taxes and abridged free speech rights, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxbusiness.com\/politics\/desantis-legal-win-revoking-disneys-special-district?intcmp=tw_fnc\">Fox Business<\/a> noted.<\/p>\n<p>The plaintiffs \u201cdo not plausibly allege they have suffered any concrete injury as a result of the alleged violation of Disney\u2019s First Amendment rights, and nothing in the Complaint shows Plaintiffs have a close relationship with Disney,\u201d Altonaga wrote, according to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.orlandosentinel.com\/politics\/os-ne-disney-reedy-creek-lawsuit-dismissed-20220510-cuqj5yslbba7jeprckcwzf4cja-story.html\">Orlando Sentinel<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>SB 4-C \u201cdoes not apply to them, they do not allege direct harm as a result of the challenged law, and they do not plausibly allege any credible threat of direct harm in the future,\u201d Altonaga added.<\/p>\n<p>Disney \u201cprovided most of the $153 million in revenue from taxes and fees that the district collected in fiscal 2021,\u201d the Journal explained. \u201cThat money covers all of the district\u2019s governing expenses, including paying about 400 employees\u2019 salaries and servicing about $977 million in long-term bond debt that Reedy Creek has issued over the years.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Florida GOP Governor Ron DeSantis recorded yet another win on Tuesday, as a judge threw out a lawsuit challenging the governor\u2019s law that revoked special privileges enjoyed by Disney World.DeSantis<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":60,"featured_media":1437615,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_mo_disable_npp":"","fifu_image_url":"","fifu_image_alt":"","footnotes":""},"categories":[],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-1471452","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/1471452","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/60"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=1471452"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/1471452\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/1437615"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=1471452"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=1471452"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=1471452"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
