A spokesperson for Carrey denied the actor made the statement.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span>Fact Check:<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The image shared on Facebook features a picture of the famed actor along with an alleged quote of his that reads, \u201cI believe depression is legitimate. But I also believe that if you don\u2019t; exercise, eat nutritious food, get sunlight, get enough sleep, consume positive material, surround yourself with support, then you aren\u2019t giving yourself a fighting chance.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The quote is misattributed. The statement does not appear in any of Carrey\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/search?q=%22But%20I%20also%20believe%20that%20if%20you%20don%27t%22%20(from%3AJimCarrey)&#038;src=typed_query\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">tweets<\/a> and he does not maintain official accounts on any other social media platforms. During a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=LMnrH1CN4oc&#038;t=0s\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">2017 appearance<\/a> on the <a href=\"https:\/\/open.spotify.com\/show\/2HAG2W3UP7AGS9qhzuenjz\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">TIFF Long Take<\/a> podcast Carrey <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=ZIqria9jU9A&#038;t=66s\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">said<\/a>, \u201cDepression is your body saying \u2018fuck you, I don\u2019t want to be this character anymore. I don\u2019t want to hold up this avatar that you created. And the world is too much for me.&#8217;\u201d<\/p>\n[embedded content]\n<p>Carrey told <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/6-uk66ko1Nw?t=256\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Access Hollywood<\/a> in late March 2022 that he was \u201cprobably\u201d retiring from acting and was \u201cfairly serious\u201d about the idea, Variety <a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/2022\/film\/news\/jim-carrey-retiring-acting-1235220945\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">reported<\/a>.
