Harrier jets were decommissioned in 2011 with a final flyover including only 16 jets.<\/p>\n<p><span><strong>Fact Check:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>The Facebook <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.ph\/p4Bn9\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">image<\/a> allegedly shows a fleet of jets spelling out the words \u201cFuck Off\u201d in the sky. \u201cThe British government scrapped the Harrier fleet in 2013, and on their farewell formation flypast over the Houses of Parliament, they sent the government a message,\u201d the post\u2019s caption claims.<\/p>\n<p>The Harrier jet is a \u201csingle-engine, \u2018jump-jet\u2019 fighter-bomber designed to fly from combat areas and aircraft carriers and to support ground forces,\u201d according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.britannica.com\/technology\/Harrier-airplane\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Britannica<\/a>. <a href=\"https:\/\/checkyourfact.com\/2021\/10\/12\/fact-check-f-joe-biden-sign-stadium\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">(RELATED: Was A \u2018F*** Joe Biden\u2019 Sign Displayed On The Side Of A Stadium?)<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Britain\u2019s Harrier jets were decommissioned in 2011 due to cuts in defense spending, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/news\/mobile\/uk-11996936\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">BBC News<\/a>. Before the planes were officially decommissioned, 16 Harrier jets departed from Royal Air Force (RAF) Station Cottesmore in Leicestershire in December 2010 as part of a final flyover, according to a 2010 TV broadcast by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=VH0wfy6EZM0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Forces News<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Check Your Fact found no <a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/search?q=Harrier+Jets+sky+message+Britain&#038;sxsrf=ALiCzsZDxWQPjVKn0EcqcYbdw3v1rbvaJA%3A1652203880330&#038;ei=aKF6YtfiEY_L_QbXs5uYAw&#038;ved=0ahUKEwjXtoaLu9X3AhWPZd8KHdfZBjMQ4dUDCA4&#038;uact=5&#038;oq=Harrier+Jets+sky+message+Britain&#038;gs_lcp=Cgdnd3Mtd2l6EAM6CggAEEcQsAMQyQM6BwgAEEcQsAM6BQghEKABOgUIIRCrAkoECEEYAEoECEYYAFBGWKMKYP4KaAFwAXgAgAGGAYgBiQaSAQM2LjKYAQCgAQHIAQjAAQE&#038;sclient=gws-wiz\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">news coverage<\/a> reporting on any messages of protest during the event. The weather conditions at the time were so poor that \u201cthe pilots, after forming a \u00addiamond formation, could not safely fly below the cloud cover,\u201d according to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailymail.co.uk\/news\/article-1338886\/Harrier-jets-skies-final-farewell.html#:~:text=Unfortunately%2C%20the%20weather%20spoiled%20the%20occasion.%20Conditions%20were%20so%20poor%20that%20the%20pilots%2C%20after%20forming%20a%20%C2%ADdiamond%20formation%2C%20could%20not%20safely%20fly%20below%20the%20cloud%20cover.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Daily Mail<\/a>. Neither Forces News nor the Daily Mail mentioned the alleged formation.<\/p>\n<p>The Facebook photo appears to be an altered version of an image uploaded to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/manxnorton\/5261572254\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Flickr<\/a> by user Manx Norton in December 2010 that shows similar-looking planes in a diamond formation.
