Trey Gowdy attended the premiere of conservative filmmaker Dinesh D\u2019Souza\u2019s film \u201c2000 Mules\u201d at former President Donald Trump\u2019s Mar-A-Lago residence.<\/p>\n<p><span><strong>Verdict: False<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Gowdy denied making the remark or attending the event. The quote attributed to him in the post originated from another attendee.<\/p>\n<p><span><strong>Fact Check:\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>D\u2019Souza\u2019s film \u201c2000 Mules\u201d alleges ballot harvesters were paid to collect ballots and swing the 2020 presidential election in favor of President Joe Biden, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ajc.com\/politics\/what-2000-mules-leaves-out-from-ballot-harvesting-claims\/FFMNUU56RVBRNOLZKWHUREQPEU\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">The Atlanta Journal-Constitution<\/a>. The film was screened at Trump\u2019s Mar-A-Lago residence and was attended by high-profile conservative figures and conspiracy theorists, Newsweek <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsweek.com\/donald-trump-2000-mules-film-election-fraud-dsouza-rittenhouse-1703680\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>An image shared on Facebook shows a photo of Gowdy along with text that reads, \u201cI was privileged to be at Mar-a-Lago for the premiere of 2000 Mules. I always believed that rampant cheating occurred but was skeptical that it could be proven. After watching the movie I am no longer skeptical. @DineshDSouza has them dead to rights IMHO. God bless you Dinesh.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTrey Gowdy who served as the U.S. representative for South Carolina\u2019s 4th congressional district says,\u201d reads the image\u2019s caption. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/checkyourfact.com\/2020\/04\/30\/fact-check-trey-gowdy-write-coronavirus-conspiracy-theory\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">(RELATED: Did Trey Gowdy Write This Coronavirus Conspiracy Theory?)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Gowdy did not make this statement. No such quote appears on the former representative\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/search?q=2%2C000%20mules%20(from%3ATGowdySC)&#038;src=typed_query&#038;f=top\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">verified social<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/tgowdysc\/?hl=en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">media<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/RepTreyGowdy\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">accounts<\/a>. There are likewise no credible <a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/search?q=trey+gowdy+2000+mules&#038;oq=trey+gowdy+2000+mules&#038;aqs=chrome.0.69i59j69i57j69i60l3.5742j0j4&#038;sourceid=chrome&#038;ie=UTF-8\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">news reports<\/a> suggesting Gowdy was present at the event or made the remark.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo and No. Both are totally false,\u201d said Gowdy in an email to Check Your Fact.<\/p>\n<p>The quote may have originated from a <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/DavidLimbaugh\/status\/1522739868668989441\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">tweet<\/a> sent by David Limbaugh, the <a href=\"https:\/\/heavy.com\/news\/david-limbaugh\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">brother<\/a> of late conservative radio host Rush Limbaugh, which features the same wording as in the Facebook post.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">I was privileged to be at Mar-a-Lago for the premiere of 2000 Mules.
