And <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetrafalgargroup.org\/news\/nat-issues-scotus-0510\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">this poll offers margins so wide and so non-partisan<\/a> that it\u2019s impossible to conclude anything but that Joe Biden and Chuck Schumer have positioned themselves in a box canyon over the reaction to the Supreme Court leak in\u00a0<em>Dobbs<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Biden in particular refused to rebuke protesters that targeted the homes of Supreme Court justices, aligning himself with a view shared by a whopping 16% of the American electorate:<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>When 76% of the American electorate agrees on anything, it\u2019s usually best to get behind it when possible, and preferably\u00a0<em>ahead<\/em> of it. Biden certainly had his opportunities to lead on this point, but <a href=\"https:\/\/hotair.com\/john-s-2\/2022\/05\/05\/protest-group-plans-to-show-up-at-justices-homes-n467270\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">he and Jen Psaki decided to take a pass<\/a> until <a href=\"https:\/\/hotair.com\/ed-morrissey\/2022\/05\/09\/psaki-on-second-thought-biden-does-have-a-position-against-targeting-supreme-court-justices-n467992\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the heat got a little too much<\/a> even from a friendly media industry.<\/p>\n<p>As one might surmise from this topline figure, opposition to the Ruth Sent Us targeting of Supreme Court justices has to be significantly bipartisan. But just\u00a0<em>how<\/em> bipartisan is eye-popping:<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-468324\" src=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/trafalgar-2-730x407-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"730\" height=\"407\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/trafalgar-2-730x407-1.jpg 730w, https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/trafalgar-2.jpg 781w\" \/><\/p>\n<p>How radical was Biden\u2019s tacit approval of these protests? Only 21.4% of\u00a0<em>Democrats<\/em> believe they are acceptable. Exactly two-thirds of Democratic respondents find them unacceptable. Unaffiliated voters largely line up with the toplines, 18.5\/75.1 opposed to the targeting of SCOTUS residences for these protests.<\/p>\n<p>Biden gets more specific bad news out of this poll as well. When asked whether his refusal to condemn these protests contributed to lawlessness and\/or violence, a majority of respondents (52.3%) said yes, with only 27.5% saying it would have no impact; only 10% thought Biden\u2019s statements did anything to discourage violence or criminal behavior. Among Democrats, the numbers look\u00a0<em>somewhat<\/em> better, at 27.7\/39.2\/16.2 respectively \u2026 which hardly looks like any endorsement for Biden\u2019s responses. Among indies, the split was 54.7\/29.8\/7.0.<\/p>\n<p>Not that these splits would change in a slanted poll, but the sample is worth noting. The split was 39.3% Democrat, 35.6% Republican, and 25.1% independent \u2014 a bit of an oversample for both parties, but more so for Democrats. Women also get a slight oversample here, comprising 53.3% of the survey respondents.<\/p>\n<p>This isn\u2019t the only polling showing Biden and Schumer walking their party into a trap, either. A confidential memo to the <a href=\"https:\/\/americafirstpolicy.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">America First Policy Institute<\/a> prepared by <a href=\"https:\/\/scottrasmussen.com\/category\/poll_results\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Scott Rasmussen<\/a> uses his existing national polling on the topic to conclude that overturning <em>Roe<\/em> creates a massive political problem for Democrats. It\u2019s true that voters express support for keeping\u00a0<em>Roe<\/em>, but only because they don\u2019t have a firm grasp on what that means.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSeventy-seven (77%) of voters don\u2019t know what overturning that decision would mean,\u201d the memo explains, noting that 41% think it would make abortion illegal, and the other 36% aren\u2019t sure of the impact. More importantly, though, a very large majority want those decisions made by themselves or their legislatures. \u201cSixty five percent,\u201d the memo continues, \u201cthink abortion laws should be established by voters and their elected representatives.\u201d Only 18% prefers \u201cthe status quo,\u201d Rasmussen writes, which the draft <em>Dobbs<\/em> decision would eliminate. And 73% acknowledge that \u201cthere are two lives to consider\u201d in abortion \u2014 \u201cthe woman\u2019s and the unborn child.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Given <a href=\"https:\/\/hotair.com\/ed-morrissey\/2022\/05\/05\/politico-huffpo-schumers-maximalist-abortion-bill-doomed-and-not-woke-enough-n467303\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the radical nature of Schumer\u2019s bill<\/a>, Rasmussen predicts that Democrats will paint themselves into a very extreme corner by forcing a vote on it. We\u2019ll have more on that later as well, but suffice it to say that the American electorate has already concluded that Biden has already painted himself into a corner with the radicals on this issue. Schumer might end up preventing any exit from it for the rest of his caucus. The only question is whether Republicans can snatch defeat from the jaws of victory by interfering with this Democratic meltdown.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Yes, yes, Trafalgar is a Republican-leaning polling house, but they\u2019re also usually very accurate.
