The Law School Admission Council, the organization that administers the LSAT, shared its concern in a Friday <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/legal\/legalindustry\/end-lsat-law-school-entry-test-is-chopping-block-again-2022-05-06\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">statement<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text__text__1FZLe text__dark-grey__3Ml43 text__regular__2N1Xr text__large__nEccO body__base__22dCE body__large_body__FV5_X article-body__element__2p5pI\" data-testid=\"paragraph-6\">\u201cStudies show test-optional policies often work against minoritized individuals, so we hope the ABA will consider these issues very carefully,\u201d it said.<\/p>\n<p>The recommended change follows a move to decrease the emphasis on standardized testing for admissions in recent years. For example, in March the California State University system <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/california-state-university-drops-sats-acts-from-admissions-requirements\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said<\/a> it will be eliminating the SAT and ACT from its undergraduate admissions process.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis decision aligns with the California State University\u2019s continued efforts to level the playing field and provide greater access to a high-quality college degree for students from all backgrounds,\u201d CSU acting Chancellor Steve Relyea said in a statement, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/losangeles\/news\/california-state-university-drops-sats-acts-admissions\/?utm_source=facebook&#038;utm_medium=news_tab\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">according to<\/a> CBS.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn essence, we are eliminating our reliance on the high-stress, high-stakes test that has shown negligible benefit and providing our applicants with greater opportunities to demonstrate their drive, talents and potential for college success,\u201d the report added.<\/p>\n<p>FairTest, a national organization for fair and open testing, reported in October that more than 1,785 schools were test-optional for fall 2022, representing more than three-fourths of all colleges and universities.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe record number of admissions offices waiving testing mandates reflects widespread satisfaction with those policies,\u201d FairTest Executive Director Bob Schaeffer said in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fairtest.org\/record-1775-schools-are-testoptional-fall-2022\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">statement<\/a>. \u201cSchools that did not mandate ACT\/SAT submission last year generally received more applicants, better academically qualified applicants, and a more diverse pool of applicants.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Harvard announced in December that it would no longer require the SAT or ACT as part of its admission process through 2026.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cConsistent with Harvard\u2019s whole-person admissions process, standardized tests are one factor among many considered. Accomplishments in and out of the classroom during the high school years \u2014 including extracurricular activities, community involvement, employment, and family responsibilities \u2014 are considered as part of the admissions process,\u201d the school <a href=\"https:\/\/college.harvard.edu\/about\/news-announcements\/admissions-update-2023-2026-application-cycles\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">stated<\/a> in December.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cStudents who do not submit standardized test scores will not be disadvantaged in their application process. Applicants will be considered on the basis of what they have presented, and students are encouraged to send whatever materials they believe would convey their accomplishments in secondary school and their promise for the future,\u201d Harvard added.<\/p>\n<p>The University of Chicago went test-optional in 2018, according to a New York Times <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2021\/12\/16\/us\/harvard-admissions-act-sat.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">report<\/a>, starting the process before the pandemic.
