Wade.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>In addition to the protests targeting the Supreme Court, there were acts of vandalism against churches, pro-life groups, and crisis pregnancy centers.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Conservatives claimed that the protests were intended to intimidate the justices.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Demonstrators attempted to pressure conservative Supreme Court justices outside their homes while vandals targeted churches and pro-life groups in the wake of news that the Supreme Court intends to overturn Roe v. Wade.<\/p>\n<p>Following the publication of a leaked draft opinion indicating the court will overtun the landmark abortion case,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/05\/06\/law-enforcement-violence-roe-v-wade\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">protesters<\/a>\u00a0gathered outside the houses of Supreme Court justices over the weekend in an attempt to pressure them to change their votes. Vandals hit churches and crisis pregnancy centers and a pro-life group was firebombed, leading many conservatives to claim that abortion-rights supporters were attempting to intimidate the Supreme Court.<\/p>\n<p>Justice Samuel Alito, who authored the draft opinion that overturns Roe v. Wade, the 1973 Supreme Court decision that legalized abortion, was forced to scrap a scheduled appearance at a judicial conference for the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals, Reuters\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/legal\/government\/us-supreme-courts-alito-cancels-conference-appearance-after-abortion-ruling-leak-2022-05-04\/\">reported<\/a>\u00a0last week.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">The energy is markedly more negative outside Kavanaugh\u2019s house. As many as 100 people attended the demonstration,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/MaryMargOlohan\/status\/1523101134985908226\">according<\/a>\u00a0to the Daily Wire.<\/p>\n<p>One group, Shut Down DC,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/ShutDown_DC\/status\/1522639590322061313\">announced<\/a>\u00a0plans for a Monday evening protest in front of Alito\u2019s home on social media.<\/p>\n<p>Across the country, churches, pro-life-groups and crisis pregnancy centers were vandalized\u00a0after the draft opinion was leaked. The offices of Wisconsin Family Action in Madison, Wisconsin were hit with Molotov cocktails and a fire was lit, according a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cityofmadison.com\/news\/madison-police-chief-responds-to-arson-investigation-on-citys-north-side\">statement<\/a>\u00a0by the Madison police.<\/p>\n<p>Remains of a Molotov cocktail were found after the Madison Fire Department responded to a call after flames were seen in the building at 6 a.m.,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cityofmadison.com\/police\/newsroom\/incidentreports\/incident.cfm?id=28881\">according<\/a>\u00a0to an incident report.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">BREAKING: Somebody vandalized and allegedly threw Molotov cocktails into Wisconsin Family Action\u2019s \u2014 an anti-abortion rights group \u2014 Madison office, writing w\/ graffiti, \u201cIf abortions aren\u2019t safe, then you aren\u2019t either.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Story TK\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/6Wfnyeh9hQ\">pic.twitter.com\/6Wfnyeh9hQ<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Alexander Shur (@AlexanderShur)\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/AlexanderShur\/status\/1523320097993076737?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">May 8, 2022<\/a> <\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>\u201cIt appears a specific non-profit that supports anti-abortion measures was targeted,\u201d Madison Police Chief Shon Barnes said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cImagine if somebody had been in the office when this happened. They would have been hurt,\u201d Judith Appling, the president of Wisconsin Family Action,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/madison.com\/news\/local\/madison-anti-abortion-headquarters-hit-by-molotov-cocktail-vandalism-graffiti\/article_526660ea-776d-50ca-9baa-4b4a9337dca7.html\">told<\/a>\u00a0Madison.com. She added that the smell of smoke persisted for hours.<\/p>\n<p>Other pro-life organizations reported vandalism since the draft opinion was leaked.<\/p>\n<p>Loreto House, a crisis pregnancy center in Denton, Texas was spray-painted with the words \u201cNot a clinic,\u201d\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/dentonrc.com\/news\/crime\/loreto-house-vandalized-with-spray-paint\/article_6cdfea49-d456-53c5-bea6-6ad2f0e44e5a.html\">according<\/a>\u00a0to the Denton Record-Chronicle.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">BREAKING: Antifa pro-abort men are attacking and putting out hits on pregnancy centers in Portland, OR. Because it drives pro-abort men to violent rage to think that women will have support to choose life.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/Oomlr6EGUg\">pic.twitter.com\/Oomlr6EGUg<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Lila Rose (@LilaGraceRose)\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/LilaGraceRose\/status\/1522283785278017536?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">May 5, 2022<\/a> <\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>A crisis pregnancy center in Portland, Oregon reported vandalism, including, \u201cF*ck CPCs,\u201d in a post on its\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/first-image.org\/2022\/05\/05\/vandalism-at-our-southeast-center\/\">website<\/a>, while a\u00a0Catholic church in Boulder, Colorado was vandalized with graffiti saying, \u201cMy body, my choice,\u201d according to a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/denver.cbslocal.com\/2022\/05\/04\/sacred-heart-mary-catholic-church-boulder-vandalism\/\">report<\/a>\u00a0by CBS Denver.<\/p>\n<p>Conservatives characterized the protests as a form of intimidation aimed at the Supreme Court.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Left is embracing mob violence to try and get a partisan outcome out of the Supreme Court,\u201d Republican Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/tedcruz\/status\/1523317046582251520\">posted<\/a>\u00a0on Twitter.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cJustice intimidation is a federal crime,\u201d former Trump Administration official Amber Smith\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/AmberSmithUSA\/status\/1523124365197340672\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">tweeted<\/a>, citing a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.law.cornell.edu\/uscode\/text\/18\/1507\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">provision<\/a>\u00a0in federal law.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"und\">18 U.S.C. \u00a7 1507 \u2b07\ufe0f\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/sFtT4euNl4\">pic.twitter.com\/sFtT4euNl4<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Kayleigh McEnany (@kayleighmcenany)\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/kayleighmcenany\/status\/1522715890910957576?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">May 6, 2022<\/a> <\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The law says those who parade, picket, or demonstrate \u201cwith the intent of interfering with, obstructing, or impeding the administration of justice, or with the intent of influencing any judge, juror, witness, or court officer\u201d could face a fine or up to a year in prison if convicted.<\/p>\n<p>Kayleigh McEnany, former White House Press Secretary during the Trump Administration, also cited the federal law in a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/kayleighmcenany\/status\/1522715890910957576\">post<\/a>\u00a0on Twitter.<\/p>\n<p>White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki condemned efforts to intimidate judges or to violently attack pro-life groups Monday morning,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/PressSec\/status\/1523649143951962115\">saying<\/a>\u00a0protests \u201cshould never include violence, threats, or vandalism\u201d in a Twitter\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/PressSec\/status\/1523649143951962115\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">post<\/a>\u00a0on Monday, adding \u201cJudges perform an incredibly important function in our society, and they must be able to do their jobs without concern for their personal safety.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Psaki had previously characterized the protesters as merely exhibiting \u201ca lot of passion, a lot of fear, a lot of sadness.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Justice Department did not respond to a request for comment from the Daily Caller News Foundation.<\/p>\n<p>Content created by The Daily Caller News Foundation is available without charge to any eligible news publisher that can provide a large audience.
