The world was a better place then, wasn\u2019t it? For some, sure. For the actor Jussie Smollett, not so much. On January 29, 2019, as you may recall, Smollett told police officers that he was attacked outside his apartment by two men in ski masks. The perpetrators of this supposed hate crime racially abused Smollett. Clearly not familiar with the fact that they were in Chicago, very much <a data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Politics_of_Illinois%23:~:text%3DThe%2520US%2520state%2520of%2520Illinois,are%2520held%2520by%2520a%2520Democrat.&#038;source=gmail&#038;ust=1651825115721000&#038;usg=AOvVaw0bPBHgswymg6_OKLDRj7c0\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Politics_of_Illinois#:~:text=The%20US%20state%20of%20Illinois,are%20held%20by%20a%20Democrat.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">a blue city<\/a>, the men reminded Smollett that &#8220;this is MAGA country.\u201d The criminals then proceeded to pour \u201can unknown liquid&#8221; on Smollett, according to a statement released by the Chicago Police Department. Finally, they put a noose around his neck. Smollett, somewhat remarkably, was able to fight the men off, even as he held onto his <a data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/twitchy.com\/brettt-3136\/2019\/02\/02\/from-his-cold-dead-hands-police-say-jussie-smollett-held-onto-his-sandwich-despite-attack\/&#038;source=gmail&#038;ust=1651825115721000&#038;usg=AOvVaw2sjIFgCO25GrzKbfhqCHZf\" href=\"https:\/\/twitchy.com\/brettt-3136\/2019\/02\/02\/from-his-cold-dead-hands-police-say-jussie-smollett-held-onto-his-sandwich-despite-attack\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Subway sandwich<\/a>. \u00a0The best word to describe what occurred to Mr. Smollett is unbelievable. That\u2019s because none of this ever occurred. A subsequent investigation by the Chicago PD found that Smollett had fabricated the story, paying two brothers to stage the assault.<\/p>\n<p>Prior to the results of the investigation, prominent outlets <a data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/nypost.com\/2021\/12\/07\/don-lemon-did-not-mention-own-role-in-jussie-smollett-trial\/&#038;source=gmail&#038;ust=1651825115721000&#038;usg=AOvVaw0BR_ixmBHQ3HMbEG6W6jYu\" href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2021\/12\/07\/don-lemon-did-not-mention-own-role-in-jussie-smollett-trial\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">like CNN<\/a> were quick to take Smollett\u2019s claims at face value. \u00a0It didn\u2019t cross their minds to stop and ask, could Smollett be lying? Was it possible that Smollett had consciously chosen to exploit the \u201cviolence against blacks is everywhere\u201d narrative to further his own selfish ways?<\/p>\n<p>Three years on from the investigation, we have a new celebrity making outlandish claims. Her name is Amber Heard, an actress, I argue, who has exploited the <a data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/www.thedailybeast.com\/jeffrey-tambors-messy-transparent-exit-how-should-we-handle-these-scandals?via%3Dtwitter_page&#038;source=gmail&#038;ust=1651825115721000&#038;usg=AOvVaw0K2hf6C0xYbPZnTKXtwxY2\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thedailybeast.com\/jeffrey-tambors-messy-transparent-exit-how-should-we-handle-these-scandals?via=twitter_page\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u201cbelieve all women\u201d<\/a> narrative to full effect. For the uninitiated, Ms. Heard, 35, was married to Johnny Depp, 58, for 15 months, from 2015 to 2016. The pair began dating in 2012. During their time together, Heard claims that she was the victim of domestic abuse. In 2018, she wrote an op-ed for <em>The Washington Post<\/em>, describing herself as a <a data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/opinions\/ive-seen-how-institutions-protect-men-accused-of-abuse-heres-what-we-can-do\/2018\/12\/18\/71fd876a-02ed-11e9-b5df-5d3874f1ac36_story.html&#038;source=gmail&#038;ust=1651825115721000&#038;usg=AOvVaw36B93lEyGAPuVICYM5kKFh\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/opinions\/ive-seen-how-institutions-protect-men-accused-of-abuse-heres-what-we-can-do\/2018\/12\/18\/71fd876a-02ed-11e9-b5df-5d3874f1ac36_story.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">sexual abuse survivor<\/a>. Mr. Depp is currently suing Ms. Heard over the op-ed, accusing her of defamation. He is seeking $50 million in damages. There is reason to believe that Mr. Depp will emerge victorious.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>As I will show here, although Ms. Heard has, for many years, painted herself as a helpless victim, she actually appears to be guilty of numerous, rather odious acts.<\/p>\n<p>First off, before going any further, let me be clear: This is not an attack on Ms. Heard. On the contrary, this is a defense of the facts, a defense of the old mantra, \u201cinnocent until proven guilty.\u201d Mr. Depp has been accused of horrible things by Ms. Heard, yet she has not produced a shred of evidence to back up her wild claims. Ms. Heard, according to a psychological expert who recently testified, appears to have <a data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/parade.com\/1373852\/jessicasager\/johnny-depp-amber-heard-trial-borderline-personality-disorder-histrionic\/&#038;source=gmail&#038;ust=1651825115721000&#038;usg=AOvVaw02f7H3DJOlTpEQ5RTfCC56\" href=\"https:\/\/parade.com\/1373852\/jessicasager\/johnny-depp-amber-heard-trial-borderline-personality-disorder-histrionic\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">two personality disorders<\/a>: <a data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=http:\/\/jaapl.org\/content\/33\/3\/342%23:~:text%3DHistrionic%2520Personality%2520Disorder%2520is%2520characterized,as%2520to%2520resemble%2520pseudologia%2520fantastica.&#038;source=gmail&#038;ust=1651825115721000&#038;usg=AOvVaw1eMXVSWx9y4yjCWZ_GO4lQ\" href=\"http:\/\/jaapl.org\/content\/33\/3\/342#:~:text=Histrionic%20Personality%20Disorder%20is%20characterized,as%20to%20resemble%20pseudologia%20fantastica.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Histrionic Personality Disorder<\/a> and <a data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/www.verywellmind.com\/link-between-borderline-personality-and-lying-q-a-425190&#038;source=gmail&#038;ust=1651825115721000&#038;usg=AOvVaw00QlnoIoxR4wDtTRF3TEjY\" href=\"https:\/\/www.verywellmind.com\/link-between-borderline-personality-and-lying-q-a-425190\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Borderline Personality Disorder<\/a> (BPD). Both of these disorders are intimately linked with the use of manipulative behavior, including <a data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/www.webmd.com\/mental-health\/signs-lying&#038;source=gmail&#038;ust=1651825115721000&#038;usg=AOvVaw3Mnrle2L69t3OklXPtmiuU\" href=\"https:\/\/www.webmd.com\/mental-health\/signs-lying\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">pathological lying<\/a>.\u00a0Recently, Ms. Heard\u2019s legal team was caught in a lie. During the pair\u2019s relationship, according to Ms. Heard\u2019s legal team, the actress\u00a0<a data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/www.narcity.com\/amber-heards-bruise-makeup-brand-is-calling-her-out-for-a-claim-at-the-johnny-depp-trial&#038;source=gmail&#038;ust=1651825115721000&#038;usg=AOvVaw3_dG4KYg4prPyZLTQZLsU2\" href=\"https:\/\/www.narcity.com\/amber-heards-bruise-makeup-brand-is-calling-her-out-for-a-claim-at-the-johnny-depp-trial\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">never left the house<\/a> without her Milani All In One Correcting Kit. Why? Research suggests <a data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pmc\/articles\/PMC3342993\/&#038;source=gmail&#038;ust=1651825115721000&#038;usg=AOvVaw0bZBxejc4dGFeMB5rjWR6a\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pmc\/articles\/PMC3342993\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">a strong link<\/a> between this personality disorder and physical aggression toward others, including lovers. Ms. Heard reportedly threw a glass bottle at Mr. Depp, \u00a0<a data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v%3DN-HMRIpEAK0&#038;source=gmail&#038;ust=1651825115721000&#038;usg=AOvVaw0hS7acnB63ABjlyxCVY1V4\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=N-HMRIpEAK0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">severing his finger<\/a> in the process. This is not the first time Ms. Heard has been accused of violence. In 2009, according <a data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/amp.marca.com\/en\/lifestyle\/celebrities\/2022\/04\/20\/6260312e46163f65298b459e.html&#038;source=gmail&#038;ust=1651825115721000&#038;usg=AOvVaw0gdINdeP5sSV9OXZRYJmEZ\" href=\"https:\/\/amp.marca.com\/en\/lifestyle\/celebrities\/2022\/04\/20\/6260312e46163f65298b459e.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">to credible reports<\/a>, the Port of Seattle Police arrested Heard after she struck Tasya van Ree, her girlfriend at the time. Heard, we\u2019re told, \u201cwas taken into custody and booked for a misdemeanor domestic violence.\u201d During her time with Mr. Depp, Ms. Heard also stands accused of carrying out a <a data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/www.insider.com\/amber-heard-admitted-poop-johnny-depp-bed-guard-testifies-2022-4&#038;source=gmail&#038;ust=1651825115721000&#038;usg=AOvVaw3keyQYs81XtlrS7gp5kZKs\" href=\"https:\/\/www.insider.com\/amber-heard-admitted-poop-johnny-depp-bed-guard-testifies-2022-4\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u201chorrible practical joke\u201d<\/a> on her partner &#8212; she defecated in his bed. One needn\u2019t be a psychologist to question the mindset of a person who would carry out such a despicable act. Mr. Depp\u2019s legal team also presented an audio recording of the Pirates of the Caribbean actor telling Ms. Heard that he is a victim of domestic abuse. In the recording, he tells his then-wife that he intends to make his thoughts public. Seemingly unperturbed, Heard <a data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/video\/tell-johnny-depp-im-victim-audio-recording-heard-played-court-2673109\/&#038;source=gmail&#038;ust=1651825115721000&#038;usg=AOvVaw0ARiK8BEhNniQ7sIiWis_2\" href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/video\/tell-johnny-depp-im-victim-audio-recording-heard-played-court-2673109\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">responds<\/a>: \u201cTell the world Johnny, tell them Johnny Depp\u2026 I, Johnny Depp, a man\u2026 I\u2019m a victim, too, of domestic violence. Let&#8217;s see who believes you. Let&#8217;s see who believes a white man, a white man of privilege can be a victim over a woman? Go on.\u201d Do these sound like the words of a victim? Do these sound like the words of an\u00a0<a data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/twitter.com\/realamberheard\/status\/1075504116527390720?lang%3Den&#038;source=gmail&#038;ust=1651825115721000&#038;usg=AOvVaw11cxbQjhV4127m96W3r-YR\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/realamberheard\/status\/1075504116527390720?lang=en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ambassador on women\u2019s rights<\/a>? I\u2019ll let you answer those questions in your own time.<\/p>\n<p>How did we get here? How did we get to a point in time where a woman can level horrendous accusations against a man, without providing an iota of evidence?<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The slogan &#8216;Believe Women,&#8217; and the clearly implied interpretation of &#8216;Believe ALL women,&#8217; is at the core of the Amber Heard trial,&#8221; <a data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v%3Dp7rCusUgcR0&#038;source=gmail&#038;ust=1651825115721000&#038;usg=AOvVaw0wofI-1HHZiklMs2IKNKvR\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=p7rCusUgcR0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Andrew Esquire,<\/a> a legal expert, told me. &#8220;#MeToo, the movement which spawned &#8216;Believe All Women,&#8217; is now widely perceived, by all but the most extreme, as a movement which pressed too far,&#8221; he added. What started out as a somewhat respectable movement quickly morphed into an insidious one. &#8220;At the onset,&#8221; said Esquire, &#8220;every sane person agreed that the quid-pro-quo of individuals like Harvey Weinstein and Jeffrey Epstein was clearly unacceptable. However, as the movement crested, more questionable accusations arose, such as those leveled at Aziz Ansari and Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh.&#8221; No one stopped to ask, are <em>all<\/em> of these women telling the truth, or just <em>some\u00a0<\/em>of them? Esquire believes that &#8220;in the wake of the conviction of Ghislaine Maxwell, we see that women can not only be guilty of the very crimes previously angled solely at men, but women such as Amber Heard appear to be weaponing the slogan of &#8216;Believe All Women&#8217; as a cudgel and blackmail tool to silence, plunder or otherwise exploit men.&#8221;\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Indeed. Mr. Depp\u2019s reputation has taken a battering. But, it seems, so too has Ms. Heard\u2019s.
