The image has nothing to do with the ongoing conflict in the country.<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>Ukrainian officials claim their military has downed more than 200 Russian aircraft since the beginning of Russia\u2019s invasion of the country, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/interfax.com.ua\/news\/general\/830114.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Interfax<\/a>. The officials also estimate Russia has lost at least 25,000 soldiers in the conflict, the outlet reported.<\/p>\n<p>An image shared on Facebook claims to show one of these doomed Russian planes. It shows a fighter jet engulfed in flames seemingly plummeting to the ground. \u201cRare Russian MiG-31BM fighter jet shot down in Ukraine destroyed along with crew \u2013 media,\u201d reads the image\u2019s caption. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/checkyourfact.com\/2022\/02\/24\/fact-check-russian-airplane-struck-ukraine\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">(RELATED: Does This Video Show A Russian Fighter Jet Being Shot Down In Ukraine?)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The image predates the Russian invasion of Ukraine. A reverse image search revealed the photo has circulated on the internet since at least 2015. The same image was featured in a March 2016 news article from the Russian-language news outlet <a href=\"https:\/\/bzns.media\/world\/v_aleppo_povstantsy_sbili_siriyskiy_voennyy_samolyet-357682\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">bzns.media<\/a>. The article\u2019s title translates to \u201cRebels shoot down Syrian warplane in Aleppo.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A mirrored version of the image could be traced back to a July 2016 article from Turkish-based news outlet <a href=\"https:\/\/www.artsakhpress.am\/eng\/news\/48481\/turkey%E2%80%99s-justice-minister-confirms-arrest-of-pilots-who-shot-down-russian-su-24-in-syria.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Artsakh Press<\/a> that reported on the November 2015 downing of a Russian SU-24 jet in Syria.
