One video shared on Facebook claims to show a large anti-war protest that recently occurred in Moscow.<\/p>\n<p>The video shows dozens of people walking through traffic while carrying a black sign bearing Cyrillic writing. Some of the demonstrators ignite flares as they march. The video ends with the protesters being arrested and hauled away by law enforcement.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnti-war protest yesterday in Moscow,\u201d reads the May 2 tweet\u2019s caption. \u201cPutin quickly sent out is (sic) police to squash it\u201d <span><a href=\"https:\/\/checkyourfact.com\/2022\/03\/21\/fact-check-bbc-news-chyron-russia-democracy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>(<\/strong><\/a><\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/checkyourfact.com\/2022\/03\/21\/fact-check-bbc-news-chyron-russia-democracy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>RELATED: Did BBC News Air This Chyron About Anti-War Protests In Russia?)<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span>The footage predates the Russian invasion of Ukraine. A reverse image search revealed the footage first appeared on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=vX87y6m3Yz4\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">YouTube<\/a> in May 2013 where it was shared with a title that translates to, \u201cAction \u2018Death to the Kremlin occupiers.&#8217;\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>A similar image from the protest appeared in a 2013 article from the Russian-language website <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mk.ru\/social\/2013\/05\/11\/852527-aktivistam-s-plakatom-smert-kremlevskim-okkupantam-dali-po-1012-sutok-aresta.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">MK.ru<\/a>. The article explains that the anti-government protest took place on Tverskaya Street, a prominent street in Moscow, and that several protesters were found guilty of \u201cdisobedience to police officers\u201d and were subsequently jailed for 10 to 12 days each. It also notes the sign the protestors carried read, \u201cDeath to the Kremlin occupiers.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p>This is not the first time a protest in Russia has been the subject of misinformation. <a href=\"https:\/\/checkyourfact.com\/2022\/04\/12\/fact-check-russia-protest-america-pakistan-affairs\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Check Your Fact<\/a> recently debunked a photo that claimed to show Russian citizens in Moscow demonstrating against U.S. involvement in Pakistan but actually showed Russians protesting the detainment of Russian opposition leader Alexi Navalny.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A video shared on Twitter allegedly shows a recent protest in Moscow, Russia against the country\u2019s invasion of Ukraine.\u00a0 Anti-war protest yesterday in Moscow.
