Like many other industries, couples preparing to say \u201cI do\u201d must navigate vendors seeking to deal with pent-up demand, supply chain bottlenecks limiting the availability of key items, and rampant consumer price inflation.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>According to data from <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/wedding.report\/index.cfm\/action\/blog\/view\/post\/pid\/1627\/title\/2021_Average_Wedding_Cost_in_the_U_S__Increased_by_25__to__27_063\"><span>The Wedding Report<\/span><\/a><span>, spending for weddings increased to $27,063 in 2021 \u2014 a 25% increase from $20,286 in 2020. The price increase also corresponds with average guest count rising from 107 to 124.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Between 2020 and 2021, a number of key wedding components saw double-digit price increases:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li aria-level=\"1\"><span>Wedding cakes \u2014 48.5%<\/span><\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\"><span>Wedding venue food \u2014 36.5%<\/span><\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\"><span>Live bands \u2014 37.9%<\/span><\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\"><span>Videographer \u2014 35.5%<\/span><\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\"><span>Wedding venue flowers and arrangements \u2014 33.4%<\/span><\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\"><span>Hotel rooms for after reception \u2014 27.3%<\/span><\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\"><span>Tuxedo rentals and purchases \u2014 20.5%<\/span><\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\"><span>Wedding dresses \u2014 16.5%<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span>Earlier this year, The Knot\u2019s 2021 <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.theknot.com\/content\/wedding-data-insights\/real-weddings-study\"><span>Real Wedding Study<\/span><\/a><span> found that couples spent $28,000 on their ceremony and reception. The total cost for attending a wedding increased from $430 in 2019 to $460 in 2021. Couples\u2019 spending per guest also increased from $214 to $266 over the same period.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>CNBC interviewed a couple that plans to hold their wedding in Cartagena, Colombia, instead of their native Miami, Florida, to save money.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cWe spent three or four months looking at a lot of different venues and realized that we weren\u2019t going to be able to afford Miami,\u201d Nicole Brandfon said about her upcoming ceremony with fianc\u00e9 Adam Alonso. \u201cFlorida, or anywhere in the U.S., really\u2026 if we wanted anything extra it seemed like it was going to be another couple thousand dollars.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Beyond weddings, inflation has outpaced nominal increases in pay, producing a nearly <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/real-wages-plummet-nearly-3-due-to-inflation\"><span>3% decline in real wages<\/span><\/a><span> \u2014 stretching Americans\u2019 budgets with respect to food, gas, housing, and other necessities. Experts predict that <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/experts-make-dire-warning-on-already-record-level-inflation\"><span>inflation will continue<\/span><\/a><span> to plague the American economy.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cInflation, as we all know, when it gets in the system, it\u2019s very hard to get it out,\u201d billionaire investor David Rubenstein said on Fox News. \u201cIt takes a long time to get it out, can take a couple of years.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cSo now I don\u2019t think the inflation rate this year will be what it was last month or so. I don\u2019t think we\u2019re going to have 8% annualized rate of inflation, but I suspect something around 5% is probably not unlikely, maybe even 6%,\u201d he added.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>To curb rising price levels, the Federal Reserve <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/the-fed-jacks-key-rate-up-half-point-as-inflation-surges\"><span>increased interest rates<\/span><\/a><span> by a half point on Wednesday \u2014 which marked the largest rate hike since May 2000 and followed a quarter point increase from near-zero levels two months ago.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cInflation is much too high,\u201d Fed Chairman Jerome Powell said at a news conference. \u201cWe understand the hardship it is causing, and we\u2019re moving expeditiously to bring it back down. We have both the tools we need and the resolve that it will take to restore price stability on behalf of American families and businesses.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Broadly speaking, inflation has eroded Americans\u2019 approval of President Joe Biden.
