The boy is Saudi Arabian and the graves are fake.<\/p>\n<p><span><strong>Fact Check:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Yemen\u2019s government, backed by a Saudi Arabian-led coalition, has been engaged in a seven-year-long war against a rebel group known as the Houthis, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/news\/world-middle-east-29319423\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">BBC News<\/a>. Hundreds of thousands of people have been killed in the conflict, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.france24.com\/en\/middle-east\/20220210-civilian-deaths-and-injuries-in-yemen-have-doubled-since-un-human-rights-monitors-removed\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">France 24<\/a> reports.<\/p>\n<p>The Facebook <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/groups\/MuftiIsmailMenkReminders\/permalink\/945522056119586\/?__xts__%5B0%5D=68.ARCUFr_ohsirKCmz2kXcPqAolW5Tf55GTs_irrnqKHHkJIeBiUPlo3DOCzKFAauXiyT-djD8wEG9_YNtR0h1TCv2cOkL4NsR-0Yn7DjrBjzjrL80mRHe89sqafUbQWHDZqCfTZZaEyx9l0O0k-v4z6L21IEiuVJxhEw82o5AfSSvJtrvgk4evCuzDCG_ffIUOLo7adSl4om9bt_YKtnqvK61_OEytt3zOZO2LVkxXUry_SNIqFVwQ2Biai2O8kSpHIDuqlPyW-yBvjkCQhfyp_qg4AmCw_rnVg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">image<\/a>, which has garnered over 650 reactions, appears to show a young boy sleeping in between two elevated piles of stones and sand. \u201cA Yemeni child sleeping between the graves of his parents,\u201d reads text included in the image. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/checkyourfact.com\/2022\/03\/02\/fact-check-russia-ukraine-war-injured-child\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">(RELATED: Does This Image Show A Child Who Was Injured During The Russian Invasion Of Ukraine?)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The photo is staged. A reverse image search revealed the picture was captured by Saudi Arabian photographer Abdel Aziz Al-Atib who shared it on his <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/itq1WVjoD7\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Instagram<\/a> in January 2014. A colored version was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/i4DlXhDoDp\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">posted<\/a> days later. \u201cSome children may feel that the body of their dead parents are more affectionate to them than the people they\u2019re living with,\u201d reads an English translation of the image\u2019s Arabic caption.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"instagram-media\" data-instgrm-captioned=\"\" data-instgrm-permalink=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/i4DlXhDoDp\/?utm_source=ig_embed&#038;utm_campaign=loading\" data-instgrm-version=\"14\"><\/blockquote>\n<p>The photographer told <a href=\"https:\/\/www.beirut.com\/l\/30914\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Beruit.com<\/a> in 2014 that the original image was staged and taken in Saudi Arabia as part of a conceptual project. \u201cI\u2019m a photographer and I try to talk about the suffering that is happening in society, it\u2019s my hobby and my exaggeration is intended to deliver my idea,\u201d said Al-Atib. He explained the boy was his nephew Ibrahim.<\/p>\n<p>Al-Atib <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/jQLAhZDoGi\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">shared<\/a> a photo weeks later of the young boy smiling at the camera and flashing a peace sign. \u201cBehind the scenes of the photo that they stole and attributed to a child in the Levant,\u201d reads an English translation of the caption.
