A spokesperson for the organization denied the claim.<\/p>\n<p><span><strong>Fact Check:\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>NATO countries, including the U.K. and the U.S., have provided Ukraine with billions of dollars worth of weapons to help the country fend off the Russian invasion, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/world\/uk\/britain-promises-further-375-mln-military-aid-ukraine-2022-05-02\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Reuters<\/a>. The U.S. recently moved a Patriot <a href=\"https:\/\/www.army-technology.com\/projects\/patriot\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">missile defense system<\/a>, an air defense system used to counter missiles and aircraft, into Slovakia after the country gave Ukraine its S-300 air defense system, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.npr.org\/2022\/04\/08\/1091711705\/us-missile-defense-system-slovakia-ukraine\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">NPR<\/a> reported.<\/p>\n<p>A video shared on Facebook claims NATO recently struck Russian troops with a Patriot missile. \u201cBrutal attack (Apr 29,2022) NATO Patriot Missile Attack hits Russian Troops Heading Ukraine Border,\u201d reads the video\u2019s title and caption. The video contains images and clips of the Patriot missile system being transported and fired while a narrator reads an April 17 report from the NL Times titled, \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/nltimes.nl\/2022\/04\/17\/dutch-patriot-missile-unit-arrives-slovakia-nato-defense-convoy-collision\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Dutch Patriot missile unit arrives in Slovakia for NATO defense after convoy collision<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>There is no evidence NATO launched an attack on Russian troops. Check Your Fact found no <a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/search?q=nato+attack+on+russia&#038;rlz=1C1CHBF_enUS820US820&#038;source=lnms&#038;tbm=nws&#038;sa=X&#038;ved=2ahUKEwjlzJvWucv3AhUzNX0KHViMAmEQ_AUoAXoECAEQAw&#038;biw=1536&#038;bih=722&#038;dpr=1.25\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">credible news reports<\/a> about such a strike. NATO has repeatedly refused to send troops into Ukraine and rejected calls for it to establish a no-fly zone over the country, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/news\/world-europe-18023383\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">BBC News<\/a>. The coalition has, however, increased its military presence in countries bordering Ukraine, the outlet reported.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAny claim that NATO forces in April fired on Russian troops is totally false and untrue,\u201d said a NATO spokesperson, in an email to Check Your Fact. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/checkyourfact.com\/2022\/05\/05\/fact-check-finnish-tanks-russian-border\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">(RELATED: Does This Video Show Finnish Tanks Being Moved To The Russian Border?)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Patriot missile system is designed specifically for air defense purposes, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/missilethreat.csis.org\/system\/patriot\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Missile Threat<\/a>, which is run by the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.csis.org\/programs\/international-security-program\/missile-defense-project\">Missile Defense Project<\/a> at the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS).
