It also resulted in a series of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.axios.com\/2021\/11\/14\/steele-dossier-discredited-media-corrections-buzzfeed-washington-post\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">corrections and reckonings<\/a> at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/opinions\/media-steele-dossier\/?itid=lk_inline_manual_2\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">media outlets<\/a> already struggling with national trust.<\/p>\n<p>As it happens, the new head of Biden\u2019s disinfo board \u2013 dedicated to tackling misinformation and disinformation as the 2022 midterm elections loom \u2013 Nina Jankowicz herself promoted a piece of disinformation Durham recently <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/05\/02\/nina-jankowicz-peddled-disinformation-about-steele-dossier\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">concluded to be an outright fabrication<\/a> by Clinton-hired researchers. Jankowicz, a self-styled \u201cglobally recognized\u201d expert on disinformation, also propped up former British spy Christopher Steele, the author of the dossier that one former CIA Moscow station chief <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/the-steele-dossier-fits-the-kremlin-playbook-1517175564\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">described as likely<\/a> \u201ca part of a Russian espionage disinformation plot.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cListened to this last night \u2014 Chris Steele (yes THAT Chris Steele) provides some great historical context about the evolution of disinfo. Worth a listen,\u201d Jankowicz <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/wiczipedia\/status\/1291692143262814209\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">wrote<\/a> in one 2020 tweet. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/04\/17\/john-durham-data-michael-sussmann-cia-found-user-created\/\">(RELATED:\u00a0Disinformation And Wizard Rock: Meet Biden\u2019s New \u2018Minister Of Truth\u2019 At DHS)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Russian-born Igor Danchenko \u2013 allegedly Steele\u2019s top source for the dossier, according to the Washington Examiner \u2013 was charged in 2021 as part of Durham\u2019s inquiry\u00a0for \u201cmaking false statements to the FBI.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>On other occasions, Jankowicz pushed misleading claims surrounding the dossier. In one <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/wiczipedia\/status\/939157661022674948\">instance<\/a>, she claimed that the Republican Party \u201cfunded the dossier first.\u201d Her tweet was in response to Republican South Carolina Sen. Lindsey Graham\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/LindseyGrahamSC\/status\/939157000822362112?s=20&#038;t=VcefXtI3khagmdOfqhuRLA\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">question<\/a> of whether there was \u201ccollusion between DOJ and Fusion GPS to use Democratic funding dossier for political and legal purposes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou\u2019re probably aware that [the Steele dossier] began as a Republican opposition research project,\u201d Jankowicz wrote in a separate tweet in 2020, according to The Washington Examiner.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Jankowicz talks a lot about \u201cdisinformation laundering.\u201d Well this is about the best example you could find.<\/p>\n<p>She touted a statement from the Clinton campaign about a since-debunked news story about Carter Page that was planted by Clinton operatives Fusion GPS and Chris Steele <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/CxlLNCKQys\">pic.twitter.com\/CxlLNCKQys<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Chuck Ross (@ChuckRossDC) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/ChuckRossDC\/status\/1521160000235839488?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">May 2, 2022<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">And this same Jankowicz fawned over disgraced dossier author Christopher Steele and repeatedly pushed the conspiracy theory that Hunter Biden\u2019s laptop was Russian disinfo. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/wrPehE1fCm\">https:\/\/t.co\/wrPehE1fCm<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/FJnoxXsYiB\">pic.twitter.com\/FJnoxXsYiB<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Drew Holden (@DrewHolden360) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/DrewHolden360\/status\/1519765199875723265?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">April 28, 2022<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The conservative Washington Free Beacon, which initially hired Fusion GPS, said in 2017 it \u201chad no knowledge of or connection to the Steele dossier.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Free Beacon\u00a0had no knowledge of or connection to the Steele dossier, did not pay for the dossier, and never had contact with, knowledge of, or provided payment for any work performed by Christopher Steele,\u201d the Beacon\u2019s editor-in-chief Matthew Continetti and chairman Michael Goldfarb wrote in a statement at the time, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.npr.org\/sections\/thetwo-way\/2017\/10\/28\/560544607\/conservative-website-initially-hired-firm-that-later-produced-trump-dossier\">according<\/a> to NPR.<\/p>\n<p>In fact, the Steele dossier came about after he was hired by an opposition firm in 2016. That firm, Fusion GPS, was hired in part by the general counsel for Clinton\u2019s 2016 presidential campaign, the Examiner noted.<\/p>\n<p>With Jankowicz prepping to lead the administration\u2019s \u201cdisinformation\u201d board, Durham\u2019s court filings have served as insight into another apparent disinformation push.<\/p>\n<p>Durham noted in one <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/04\/17\/john-durham-data-michael-sussmann-cia-found-user-created\/\">April 2022<\/a> court filing that the CIA determined data from former Clinton campaign lawyer Michael Sussmann surrounding Russia-Trump organization links was \u201cuser created\u201d and not \u201ctechnically plausible.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Sussmann was charged by Durham last year with lying to the FBI during a 2016 meeting.<\/p>\n<p>Durham more recently alleged that Fusion GPS sent hundreds of unverified claims regarding Trump to <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/04\/27\/npr-interview-david-kramer-leaked-steele-dossier-buzzfeed-news-prevent-donald-trump-inauguration\/\">journalists<\/a>, The Washington Times <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtontimes.com\/news\/2022\/apr\/26\/durham-gps-fusion-employees-emailed-reporters-unve\/\">reported<\/a>. The hundreds of emails, according to Durham, resulted in various news articles tying together Trump and Russia.<\/p>\n<p>Individuals tied to Clinton\u2019s presidential campaign have argued that research from Fusion GPS should be protected, citing attorney-client privilege.
