Wade<\/em> and <em>Planned Parenthood v. Casey<\/em> to be overturned \u2014 and\u00a0what he called the \u201cultra-MAGA agenda.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Was it wise, MacCallum wondered, for Biden to risk <a href=\"https:\/\/dailywire.com\/news\/what-is-he-talking-about-peter-doocy-asks-why-biden-thinks-republicans-will-segregate-lgbtq-kids\/\">alienating half the country<\/a> in an effort to rally support going into the quickly-approaching midterm elections?<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIs it wise. Is it politically wise? You have a lot of people who live in the suburbs a lot of independent voters, like 70%, that have a disapproval for this president. Is it wise to do sort of the \u2018basket of deplorables\u2019 plan here? Is that smart on the part of this president?\u201d she asked.<\/p>\n<p>Goodstein, who worked as an advisor to both former President Bill Clinton and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, immediately attempted to change the subject.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat\u2019s not what he said at all. He said, you know, the police are the good guys. Donald Trump watched the police get their heads bashed in \u2014\u201d he began, but Hegseth interrupted.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBack to January 6,\u201d Hegseth said. \u201cGo to the talking point. Go to the talking point. Did you say the same thing about the rioters and the BLM protesters?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey burned a Biden headquarters, too, so to lay them at the feet of Democrats is nonsense,\u201d Goodstein said. \u201cSo the fact of the matter is, Martha, to answer your question \u2014\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIs it politically wise to alienate half the country with that comment? Is that wise?\u201d MacCallum asked again.<\/p>\n<p>Goodstein argued that independents did not like extremes and did not believe things like abortion should be \u201coff the table.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat isn\u2019t what the opinion says and I\u2019m not going to let you get away with saying that,\u201d MacCallum jumped back in then, noting that <a href=\"https:\/\/dailywire.com\/news\/jen-psaki-wont-say-whether-biden-would-accept-roe-decision-as-legitimate\/\">if\u00a0<em>Roe<\/em> were to be overturned<\/a>, the states would still have the ability to determine their own abortion laws and restrictions.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Fox News&#8217; Pete Hegseth: &#8220;You&#8217;re the party of defund the police!&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Ex-Clinton advisor: &#8220;And you\u2019re the party of bashing police on the Capitol ground!&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Martha MacCallum: &#8220;That&#8217;s not fair! Nobody wants to see \u2013 we\u2019re like normal people! Health of the mother, nothing. No rape, no \u2014\u201d Goodstein objected.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThose will have to be approved by the people of the state with their vote,\u201d MacCallum pushed back.<\/p>\n<p>Goodstein argued that some of the laws had already been passed \u2014 at which point Hegseth noted that the people in those states had voted for the representatives who passed those laws.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou\u2019re the party that runs around yelling \u2018Democracy dies in darkness,\u2019\u201d Hegseth argued. \u201cDemocracy is the people voting \u2014 the closest voting to the people is the most effective \u2014\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd Martha\u2019s question, is that a way to reach independents, the answer is they are freaked out at the notion that those laws could become law,\u201d Goodstein said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHere\u2019s what they\u2019re freaked out about: You\u2019re the party of defund the police, you\u2019re the party of open borders, you\u2019re the party of injecting race \u2014\u201d Hegseth interrupted.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd you\u2019re the party of bashing police on the Capitol grounds, okay?\u201d Goodstein pushed back.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo, no, no. You know what? That\u2019s not fair,\u201d MacCallum interrupted. \u201cIt\u2019s not fair. Nobody wants to see \u2014 we\u2019re like normal people, okay? We don\u2019t want \u2014 nobody wants to see a policeman\u2019s head bashed in. Whether it\u2019s at the Capitol, I don\u2019t want to see police officers in Minneapolis chased out of their own precinct and driven away from their own precinct, I don\u2019t want to see that either.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have a fair forum here,\u201d MacCallum concluded. \u201cI\u2019m going to keep that because I want to see \u2014 when it comes time to vote, I want to see what independents actually do. That\u2019s what is going to be so fascinating about watching this mid-term process, because how do they feel? What is more important to them? Inflation or what is happening at the Supreme Court. We\u2019ll see.
