Wade may soon be overturned.<\/p>\n<p>Biden first <a href=\"https:\/\/www.britannica.com\/biography\/Joe-Biden\">joined<\/a> the U.S. Congress in 1973 as a Democratic U.S. senator from Delaware. That <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2019\/06\/27\/us\/politics\/joe-biden-abortion-hyde-amendment.html\">same year<\/a>, he declared the Supreme Court had gone \u201ctoo far\u201d regarding its then-recent ruling on Roe v. Wade, the landmark decision that deemed abortion is <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2019\/06\/09\/abortion-michigan-hotel\/\">protected<\/a> under the U.S. Constitution.<\/p>\n<p>In 1982, during his second term as senator, Biden supported an amendment that would allow states to overturn Roe v. Wade. The then-senator referenced his Catholic views as reason for his actions, saying at the time that he\u2019s \u201cprobably a victim, or a product \u2026 of my background,\u201d The New York Times <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2019\/03\/29\/us\/politics\/biden-abortion-rights.html\">reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Biden called the move \u201cthe single most difficult vote\u201d he\u2019d cast thus far as a senator.<\/p>\n<p>In 1983, the bill resurfaced. For years \u2013 up until the 2020 presidential campaign \u2013 the current president backed the <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/10\/05\/joe-biden-sign-reconciliation-bill-with-without-hyde-amendment\/\">Hyde Amendment<\/a>, which bans federal funding for most abortions, as well as initiatives with similar goals.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">In 1977, after the Hyde Amendment passed but before it took effect, Biden came out against one such initiative that aimed to allow Medicaid to fund abortions in the cases of rape, incest or concerns of life for the mother, NBC News previously <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/politics\/2020-election\/biden-s-long-evolution-abortion-rights-still-holds-surprises-n1013846\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>In 1981, Biden voted to remove the rape and incest exceptions, which had previously passed, NBC News added. During his time in Congress, the then-senator also repeatedly voted to outlaw federal workers from using their health insurance to fund abortion services, except to save a mother\u2019s life.<\/p>\n<p>Just months after announcing his 2020 presidential run, Biden sparked <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2019\/06\/06\/cory-booker-hyde-black-women\/\">outrage<\/a> with his own party when his campaign <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/politics\/2020-election\/biden-s-long-evolution-abortion-rights-still-holds-surprises-n1013846\">confirmed<\/a>\u00a0that he <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2019\/06\/05\/us\/politics\/biden-hyde-amendment.html\">backed<\/a> the Hyde Amendment.<\/p>\n<p>Less than 24 hours after his campaign\u2019s confirmation on the subject, Biden bowed amid Democratic pressure and announced he could \u201cno longer support\u201d such an amendment. This moment marked one of the current president\u2019s starkest flips on abortion views yet.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf I believe health care is a right, as I do, I can no longer support an amendment that makes that right dependent on someone\u2019s ZIP code,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2019\/06\/06\/biden-flips-hyde-amendment-pressure\/\">Biden<\/a> declared during a Democratic National Committee event.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Biden\u2019s ever-altering political stance on abortion coincide with changing comments the Catholic president has made over the years on the subject. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/05\/03\/joe-biden-rallies-voters-midterms-roe-v-wade-draft-opinion-abortion\/\">(RELATED:\u00a0Biden Rallies Voters For Midterms In Response To Roe V. Wade Draft Opinion)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In 1986, for example, Biden said during an interview with the Catholic Diocese Newspaper that \u201cabortion is wrong from the moment of conception,\u201d adding that the \u201cmost effective pro\u2013life groups are those who keep trying to push back to the frontier.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think medical science is moving the frontier back so that by the year 2000 we\u2019re going to have more and more pressure, and rightfully so in my view, of moving back further and further the circumstances under which an abortions can be had,\u201d Biden added at the time, according to NBC News. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/09\/03\/biden-abortion-life-conception\/\">(RELATED:\u00a0Biden Says He Respects Those Who Believe Life Begins At Conception, But Doesn\u2019t Agree)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This week, in light of the Roe v. Wade draft opinion, the president\u2019s comments on abortion are starkly different. In a statement issued Monday, Biden called \u201con voters to elect pro-choice officials\u201d during the upcoming midterm elections, should the draft opinion hold true.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Biden statement on Roe v.
