Jackson Women\u2019s Health Organization <\/span><\/i><span>decision. Here are some of the most over-the-top meltdowns about the possibility that the justices will overturn the 1973 <\/span><i><span>Roe v. Wade<\/span><\/i><span>\u00a0decision.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Overturning <\/b><b><i>Roe<\/i><\/b><b> \u2018will kill and subjugate women\u2019<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span>Pro-life jurisprudence kills, warned numerous people, including former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. While reading the draft opinion on Monday evening, Clinton <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/HillaryClinton\/status\/1521313156685090817\"><span>wrote<\/span><\/a><span> on Twitter:\u00a0 \u201cThis decision is a direct assault on the dignity, rights, &#038; lives of women, not to mention decades of settled law. It will kill and subjugate women even as a vast majority of Americans think abortion should be legal. What an utter disgrace.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Not surprising. But still outrageous.<\/p>\n<p>This decision is a direct assault on the dignity, rights, &#038; lives of women, not to mention decades of settled law. It will kill and subjugate women even as a vast majority of Americans think abortion should be legal. What an utter disgrace. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/TNo1IX3Tl4\">https:\/\/t.co\/TNo1IX3Tl4<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Hillary Clinton (@HillaryClinton) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/HillaryClinton\/status\/1521313156685090817?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">May 3, 2022<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><span>Others sounded similar themes. \u201cThe overturning of Roe V Wade is a political act of violence against us and we will not accept it,\u201d <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/ambertamblyn\/status\/1521308471349714949\"><span>tweeted<\/span><\/a><span> actress Amber Tamblyn.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>On \u201cThe View\u201d Tuesday, co-host Whoopi Goldberg <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.mediaite.com\/tv\/whoopi-goldberg-darkly-recalls-tripping-over-women-giving-themselves-abortions-in-public-bathrooms\/\"><span>said<\/span><\/a><span> she \u201cgot tired of tripping over women in bathrooms, public bathrooms, who were giving themselves abortions because there was nowhere safe, nowhere clean, nowhere to go.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>In reality, claims of widespread deaths from \u201cback-alley abortions\u201d came from \u2026 the people performing illegal, back-alley abortions. The late Dr. Bernard Nathanson, a onetime abortionist and director of what would become NARAL who became pro-life, <\/span><span>admitted<\/span><span> during his efforts to overturn pro-life laws before the Supreme Court decision:<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><i><span>[W]e generally emphasized the frame of the individual case, not the mass statistics, but when we spoke of the latter it was always \u20185,000 to 10,000 deaths a year.\u2019 I confess that I knew the figures were totally false, and I suppose the others did too if they stopped to think of it. But in the \u2018morality\u2019 of our revolution, it was a useful figure, widely accepted, so why go out of our way to correct it with honest statistics?\u00a0<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><span>The actual number of women who died from illegal abortion in 1972, the year before <\/span><i><span>Roe<\/span><\/i><span>, was 39.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Furthermore, decriminalizing (and sometimes, subsidizing) abortion has not stopped women from dying from \u201csafe and legal\u201d abortions. \u201cIn 2018, the most recent year for which \u2026 data were reviewed for pregnancy-related deaths, two women died as a result of complications from legal induced abortion,\u201d the CDC <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/mmwr\/volumes\/70\/ss\/ss7009a1.htm\"><span>reported<\/span><\/a><span>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>The decision says \u2018women are not full human beings\u2019<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span>CNN commentator Kirsten Powers <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/TimJGraham\/status\/1521513188352835584\"><span>lectured,<\/span><\/a><span>\u00a0\u201cIt is fine to be pro-life. Be pro-life; don\u2019t have an abortion. \u201cIt is not fine to say that women are not full human beings, people. They\u2019re so obsessed with how a fetus or an embryo is a person. Well, guess what? Women are people.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>But if unborn children are also persons, shouldn\u2019t the law protect their unalienable right to life? The author of <\/span><i><span>Roe v. Wade<\/span><\/i> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/right-to-abortion-comes-from-fight-against-slavery-cnn-legal-expert\"><span>thought so<\/span><\/a><span>. <\/span><span>\u201cIf this suggestion of personhood is established, the appellant\u2019s case, of course, collapses, for the fetus\u2019 right to life would then be guaranteed specifically by the [Fourteenth] Amendment,\u201d wrote Justice Harry Blackmun in <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/caselaw.findlaw.com\/us-supreme-court\/410\/113.html\"><i><span>Roe<\/span><\/i><\/a><i><span>.<\/span><\/i><span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">CNN analyst (not scientist) Kirsten Powers:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is not fine to say that women are not full human beings, people. Wade<\/i><\/b><b> expresses the view of all \u2018mainstream religions\u2019<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span>President Joe Biden claimed on Tuesday that the Supreme Court had somehow synthesized and distilled the timeless teachings of all great religious figures \u2014 Jesus, Moses, Muhammad, and Buddha \u2014 in affirming the right to abortion on demand. \u201c<\/span><i><span>Roe<\/span><\/i><span> says what all basic, mainstream religions have historically concluded: that the right, that the existence of a human life and being is a question,\u201d he <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/realdailywire\/status\/1521518788906266625\"><span>said<\/span><\/a><span>. \u201cIs it at the moment of conception? Is it six months? Is it six weeks? The earliest post-scriptural document, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.newadvent.org\/fathers\/0714.htm\"><span>the Didache<\/span><\/a><span>, ranks abortion with pederasty and witchcraft. While some theologians believed life began at the moment the child began to move, known colloquially as \u201cthe quickening,\u201d the fourth-century theologian Basil the Great wrote: \u201cThe woman who purposely destroys her unborn child is guilty of murder. The hair-splitting difference between formed and unformed makes no difference to us.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Whatever any faith tradition may state, science affirms that <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.princeton.edu\/~prolife\/articles\/embryoquotes2.html\"><span>life begins at conception.<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<p><b>\u2018Abortion is sacred.\u2019<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span>Some liberals went further, seeking to sanctify the act of abortion itself. \u201cLet\u2019s be clear: The right to an abortion is sacred,\u201d <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/the-right-to-an-abortion-is-sacred-democratic-lawmakers-renew-calls-to-codify-roe\"><span>said<\/span><\/a><span> Lt. Gov. John Fetterman, the Democratic hopeful for U.S. Senate in Pennsylvania. He then asked his followers to personally <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/PatrickHauf\/status\/1521516607826243586\"><span>donate<\/span><\/a><span> to one of the many state abortion funds, organizations that help underwrite (but do not pay for the full cost of) elective abortions.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Fetterman was not the only Democrat to use sacrilegious language to describe abortion on demand. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/SpeakerPelosi\/status\/1521331806443905025\"><span>tweeted<\/span><\/a><span>, \u201c<\/span><span>The Republican-appointed Justices\u2019 reported votes to overturn <\/span><i><span>Roe v. Wade<\/span><\/i><span> would go down as an abomination, one of the worst and most damaging decisions in modern history.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The speaker, who calls herself \u201c<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nationalreview.com\/2008\/09\/what-ardent-practicing-catholics-do-nro-primary-document\/\"><span>an ardent, practicing Catholic<\/span><\/a><span>,\u201d previously called abortion <\/span><span>\u201c<\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.lifesitenews.com\/news\/nancy-pelosi-issue-of-late-term-abortions-is-sacred-ground\"><span>sacred ground<\/span><\/a><span>,\u201d while other Democrats described <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/media-bias-101-pro-life-restrictions-vs-pro-abortion-protections\"><span>pro-life protections<\/span><\/a><span> as \u201c<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/therightswriter.com\/2013\/07\/for-democrats-abortion-is-their-religion\/\"><span>an abomination<\/span><\/a><span>.\u201d (For much of Western history, the term \u201c<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/quicksearch\/?quicksearch=abomination&#038;version=KJV\"><span>abomination<\/span><\/a><span>\u201d indicated something offensive to God.)<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Several of these conservative Justices, who are in no way accountable to the American people, have lied to the U.S. Senate, ripped up the Constitution and defiled both precedent and the Supreme Court\u2019s reputation.<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Nancy Pelosi (@SpeakerPelosi) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/SpeakerPelosi\/status\/1521331806443905025?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">May 3, 2022<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><span>Pro-life advocate Obianuju Ekeocha, who founded <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/cultureoflifeafrica.com\/\"><span>Culture of Life Africa<\/span><\/a><span>, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/obianuju\/status\/1521500998912589824\"><span>responded<\/span><\/a><span> to Fetterman\u2019s statement by saying: \u201cDear friends, if you ever thought that abortion is just a political issue, think again. Well, then you should probably vote.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Similarly, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/AOC\/status\/1521308650429689857\"><span>tweeted<\/span><\/a><span>, \u201cAs we\u2019ve warned, SCOTUS isn\u2019t just coming for abortion \u2013 they\u2019re coming for the right to privacy Roe rests on, which includes gay marriage + civil rights.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">The Republicans won\u2019t stop with banning abortion. These 2 points must change <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/5Isec0osV0\">https:\/\/t.co\/5Isec0osV0<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (@AOC) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/AOC\/status\/1521308650429689857?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">May 3, 2022<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><b>A pro-life court is \u2018an illegitimate court\u2019<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span>Others believed American institutions were losing their grasp on legitimacy.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cOverall, what does this story mean for the Supreme Court?\u201d asked Mika Brzezinski on Tuesday\u2019s \u201cMorning Joe.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cFor the Supreme Court, in a word, illegitimacy,\u201d answered MSNBC\u2019s Joe Scarborough, who <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsbusters.org\/blogs\/nb\/mark-finkelstein\/2022\/05\/03\/morning-joe-curbing-roe-illegitimate-nightmare-scenario-and\"><span>denounced<\/span><\/a><span> Justice Samuel Alito\u2019s ruling as \u201can illegitimate decision by <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/if-the-supreme-court-is-illegitimate-so-is-abortion-gay-marriage-and-taking-prayer-out-of-schools\"><span>an illegitimate court<\/span><\/a><span>.\u201d He asserted that his views on the Court\u2019s legitimacy represent \u201cthe perception for 70% of Americans.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>As The Daily Wire has noted before, Russian propaganda aims to have Americans view their government and public institutions as lacking legitimacy. <\/span><span>FBI Director Christopher Wray <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.fbi.gov\/news\/testimony\/worldwide-threats-to-the-homeland-091720\"><span>testified<\/span><\/a><span> before Congress that \u201chostile foreign actors\u201d conduct \u201cdisinformation campaigns\u201d designed to \u201cundermine confidence in our democratic institutions and values.\u201d Similarly, former government intelligence analyst Clint Watts <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbs.org\/newshour\/show\/russia-hacked-u-s-minds-and-undermined-democracy-author-says\"><span>told<\/span><\/a><span> NPR in 2018 that Russian propaganda plots \u201cto make Americans lose confidence in democratic institutions and elected officials by turning every crack in our country into a chasm,\u201d<\/span><span> including \u201cabortion rights.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Scarborough, who spent four years accusing his opponents of advancing Russian intelligence goals, appears to have done their bidding over <\/span><i><span>Roe v. Wade<\/span><\/i><span>.\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>A \u2018nightmare scenario\u2019 and threat to democracy<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span>Yet MSNBC continued to warn the Supreme Court decision returning the issue of abortion to state voters, would upend democracy.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Allowing voters to have a say in abortion represents a \u201cnightmare scenario,\u201d said MSNBC contributor and former Newsweek editor Jon Meacham on \u201cMorning Joe\u201d Tuesday. \u201cif the Court were to go this far, you will have, as you were just saying, an extraordinary number of Americans believing that the system, in fact, cannot, is not capable of delivering justice, is not capable of reflecting the popular will, even through the constitutional prism.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>That raises \u201cone of the great questions of the era, the great question of the era, is are you and I, are we, in this decade, are we up to democracy? Are we commensurate to the task? And, I\u2019m worried that we\u2019re entering the darkest period of that test.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Scarborough also stated that, while \u201cthe Court\u2019s always been guided by the law, but it\u2019s also been keenly aware that it is the only unelected branch of American government. They needed to not appear to be openly contemptuous of public opinion.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Of course, the Supreme Court is supposed to decide whether laws comport with the U.S. Constitution, as understood through the original intent of its framers. They were not to reflect the \u201cpopular will\u201d; one of the reasons the Founding Fathers had them appointed for life was to remove them from popular pressure.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Unquestionably, the Supreme Court\u2019s most controversial landmark decisions <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/5-times-the-left-refused-to-take-voters-no-for-an-answer-and-won\"><span>openly mocked public opinion<\/span><\/a><span>. In 1969, only <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/news.gallup.com\/opinion\/gallup\/265490\/major-social-changes-years-woodstock.aspx\"><span>40%<\/span><\/a><span> of Americans believed abortion should be legal during the first trimester of pregnancy.<\/span><span> Similarly,<\/span><span> a month after the 2015 <\/span><i><span>Obergefell v. Hodges <\/span><\/i><span>decision which created a newfound constitutional right to same-sex marital unions, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/news\/nation\/2015\/07\/18\/ap-poll-sharp-divisions-after-high-court-backs-gay-marriage\/30341661\/\"><span>only 42%<\/span><\/a><span> of Americans supported redefining marriage<\/span><span>. Scarborough and company did not rebuke the court in 2015. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Celebrities say the decision is the first stage of American fascism<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span>Others believed segregation was only one step away during the nation\u2019s implosion into full-blown fascism. Former \u201cStar Trek\u201d cast member George Takei seemed to riff on Pastor Martin Niem\u00f6ller\u2019s <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/pjmedia.com\/eddriscoll\/2009\/10\/14\/first-they-came-for-the-cliches-n250291\"><span>overused<\/span><\/a><span> statement about Nazi Germany: \u201cFirst they came for Black voters, then they targeted LGBTQ+ families.
