Mike Braun pressed Becerra on Wednesday about \u201cgender affirming care\u201d \u2014 \u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/06\/14\/walt-heyer-lgbtq-transgender\/\">a phrase<\/a> used by activists and media to mask the more grisly sounding transgender top and bottom surgeries, including removing a biological women\u2019s breasts, removing a biological man\u2019s genitals, sculpting a fake penis on a biological woman, facial feminization or facial masculinization, and more.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCould you explain what irreversible top and bottom sex change surgeries are?\u201d questioned Braun.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSenator, as you just indicated, there are many different types of procedures that can be deployed,\u201d Becerra responded. \u201cWhat I will say to you, is again, in any case, no individual, no patient will proceed forward unless his or her doctor has advised of the procedure and it is considered by the FDA and others who have to go ahead and certify a medicine or a procedure to be safe and effective.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Braun pressed Becerra, asking, \u201cIn what case would it be appropriate to perform irreversible sex change surgeries on kids?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThose decisions are made by that individual in consultation with physician and caregivers,\u201d the HHS secretary responded, \u201cand no decision would be made without having consulted appropriately.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Braun told Becerra that he did not believe the government should be pushing \u201cirreversible sex change therapy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think we just need to think about it carefully,\u201d the senator said. \u201cBecause we are navigating into territory that we\u2019ve never done before as a government. [If] kids going through this are having a hard time, we should be maybe focusing more on mental health and not things that are irreversible.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He also admonished the HHS secretary, warning him that as the leader of HHS, \u201cit might be a little more important to be a little more definitive rather than making it look like a laissez-faire approach in \u2018whatever happens, happens.&#8217;\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think that is out of sync with most of America, and it seems to me it would be wise to maybe back up a little bit,\u201d Braun said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI believe that we should help those have the life-affirming care that they need,\u201d Becerra responded. \u201cThere are many transgender youth who have actually gone in the opposite direction, taking their life, if we can make a life better for someone in America, we should, especially if, in consultation with their physician, they approve of those procedures.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>WATCH:<\/p>\n[embedded content]\n<p>In late March, the White House <a href=\"https:\/\/www.scribd.com\/document\/567452489\/White-House-Gender-Affirming-Care-Young-People-March-2022\">flagged a resource<\/a> from the Office of the Assistant Secretary for Health on \u201cTransgender Day of Visibility\u201d intended to \u201cinform parents and guardians, educators, and other persons supporting children and adolescents with information on what is gender-affirming care and why it is important to transgender, nonbinary, and other gender expansive young people\u2019s well-being.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGender-affirming care is a supportive form of healthcare,\u201d the Office of the Assistant Secretary for Health sheet says. \u201cIt consists of an array of services that may include medical, surgical, mental health, and non-medical services for transgender and nonbinary people.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor transgender and nonbinary children and adolescents, early gender- affirming care is crucial to overall health and well-being as it allows the child or adolescent to focus on social transitions and can increase their confidence while navigating the healthcare system,\u201d the White House messaging says.<\/p>\n<p>Transgender surgeries, hormones, and affirmations are important, the White House claimed, because these procedures have been \u201cshown to increase positive outcomes for transgender and nonbinary children and adolescents.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGender-affirming care is patient-centered and treats individuals holistically, aligning their outward, physical traits with their gender identity,\u201d the White House messaging sheet added.<\/p>\n<p>Commentators, lawmakers, people <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailysignal.com\/2022\/01\/24\/transsexual-slams-planned-parenthood-aclu-womens-sports\/\">who identify as transgender<\/a>, and people who <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/detransitioners-flood-social-media-with-testimony-photos-the-darkest-time-in-my-life\">formerly attempted transitions<\/a> have expressed grave concerns about
