As Jeanette put it, her child would avoid \u201cdepression\u201d and \u201csuffering.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>But what has happened since then?<\/p>\n<h3>The Media Cultivation<\/h3>\n<p>Americans first got a glimpse of Jazz in 2007, when ABC\u2019s 20\/20 ran a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=eJ_BHY5RolA\">special<\/a> on gender transitions in children.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019ll say things like, God made you special, because there aren\u2019t very many girls out there that have a penis,\u201d Jeanette told Barbara Walters. Jazz was just six years old at the time, had already had a transgender \u201ccoming out party,\u201d and was living as a girl at home and at school.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA phase is called a phase because it is just that: it ends, and this is not ending,\u201d the mother emphasized. \u201cThis is just getting stronger.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Walters painted Jeanette and Greg as \u201ccourageous and loving parents\u201d who were absolutely saving their child \u201cfrom a future of heartache and pain.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Jeanette, with her husband by her side holding her hand, told Walters Jazz as a \u201cbaby came out and basically said, this is who I am. I\u2019m a girl.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>When Jazz was just two years old, things started to change for the family.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMommy when\u2019s the good fairy gonna come with her magic wand and change, ya know, my genitalia?\u201d Jeanette recalled Jazz supposedly telling her at just two years old, explaining that Jazz wanted to \u201ctake off my penis\u201d and \u201cmake it into a vagina.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>This was the turning point for Jeanette.<\/p>\n<p>By age three, Jazz was fully living as a girl at home. At 4 1\/2, Jazz was a girl inside the home <em>and<\/em> outside of the home. For Jazz\u2019s fifth birthday party, the family swapped out a kid\u2019s theme for a transgender coming-out party<em>.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Jeanette assured a completely sympathetic Walters that she was transitioning her child to save Jazz from being \u201cdepressed\u201d and \u201csuffering,\u201d adding a prophetic, \u201cWhat child should have to suffer?\u201d<\/p>\n[embedded content]\n<p>The family wasn\u2019t done sharing Jazz\u2019s story though. And neither was the media. The child\u2019s YouTube show turned into a long-running reality TV show on TLC called \u201cI am Jazz,\u201d starting when Jazz was just 14 years old.<\/p>\n<p>The show has provided the media with endless content to promote and normalize transgenderism in children. Jazz is a published author and a recipient of numerous awards, <a href=\"https:\/\/transkidspurplerainbow.org\/featured\/jazz-receives-prestigious-colin-higgins-youth-courage-award\/\">including<\/a> the prestigious Colin Higgins Youth Courage Award at age 11.<\/p>\n<p>But there was a dark side, too.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Jazz Can\u2019t Feel Sexual Pleasure\u00a0<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>The Jennings\u2019 made sure Jazz\u2019s puberty was blocked, which consequently stunted genital growth. Jazz, at age 18, disclosed an inability to experience sexual pleasure.<\/p>\n<div class=\"paragraph\">\n<p>\u201cJazz as a medical case is really a conundrum because her puberty was blocked so well that she didn\u2019t get growth of her genitals in a way that allows us as a surgeon to use a conventional approach,\u201d surgeon Dr. Marci Bowers <a href=\"https:\/\/people.com\/tv\/jazz-jennings-talks-sexual-stuff-orgasm-libido-doctor-before-gender-confirmation-surgery\/\">said<\/a>\u00a0when Jazz was 18-years-old.<\/p>\n<p>For all of the world to see, Jazz spoke to Bowers about never experiencing an orgasm.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"paragraph\">\n<div class=\"paragraph\">\n<p>\u201cThe orgasm. The Big O,\u201d Jazz said at the appointment.\u00a0\u201cThere hasn\u2019t been much change. My libido\u2019s still basically nowhere.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"paragraph\">\n<p>\u201cJazz does not know what an orgasm is and it\u2019s very important when expressing intimacy,\u201d Bowers said. \u201cAnd although it is not something that\u2019s going to delay surgery, it\u2019s not going to be any easier for her to have an orgasm after surgery.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Notably, in 2019, Jazz openly worried about ever enjoying sex because of \u201chow \u2018effed up my whole vagina is.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Before the third surgery in 2020, Jazz <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cheatsheet.com\/entertainment\/i-am-jazz-fans-react-to-jazz-jennings-sex-museum-outing-with-her-brother.html\/\">wondered<\/a>, \u201cI mean, my biggest concern is, I still haven\u2019t had an orgasm.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m a little less euphoric arriving to New York this time than I was for my original vaginoplasty,\u201d Jazz said on his show. \u201cObviously the first time, it was a big surgery, and now we\u2019re on the third surgery.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<h3><b>Three Grueling, Risky \u2018Corrective\u2019 Surgeries<\/b><\/h3>\n<div class=\"paragraph\">\n<p>Jazz first underwent surgery to change his penis to something that resembles a vagina at just 17 years old, in 2018. There were complications, and Jazz needed a second surgery, which turned into a third surgery.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"paragraph\">\n<p>\u201cShe had a very incredible first surgery \u2014 it went seemingly very well, but there were problems,\u201d Dr. Bowers conceded when Jazz was 19. \u201cAnd that prompted a second surgery, which I was not a part of, unfortunately.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"paragraph\">\n<p>\u201cTaking Jazz on as a patient for surgery, we knew it was going to be a one-of-a-kind surgery,\u201d Dr.\u00a0Jess Ting added. \u201cWe don\u2019t have the experience of having said we\u2019ve done 50 of these. I was just not expecting her to have a complication as severe as what she did have.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">My vagina looked SO bad that my mom, sister, and the surgeons wouldn&#8217;t even let me look at it. Eventually, I used a compact mirror to get a peak and all I could do was laugh. We knew it would be tough \u2014 it turned out tougher than any of us imagined,\u201d Bowers admitted. \u201cI think in hindsight we would have never sent you home from the hospital. You know, easy to say now. When I wasn\u2019t here when you had problems and had to go back, I can\u2019t tell you how stressful that was.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Jazz, in 2019, said, \u201cmy vagina falling apart was the hardest thing I ever had to experience.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">In life, everything is about attitude &#038; perspective. Even though my vagina falling apart was the hardest thing I ever experienced, I knew that one day I would be fully healed &#038; recovered. With the love &#038; support of my family, it makes it easier for me to conquer a challenge like this. I can&#8217;t imagine how devasting it would be for someone without that support system.<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Jazz Jennings (@JazzJennings__) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/JazzJennings__\/status\/1092969159753850881?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">February 6, 2019<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<h3>The Depression And Weight Gain<\/h3>\n<p>Jazz has been open about dealing with depression and an overeating disorder. As a result of\u00a0struggling with serious mental health issues,\u00a0in fact, the reality star\u00a0had to defer going to Harvard University.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTwo years ago, I was on my way to [Harvard] one of the greatest institutions in the world, but I was actually struggling severely with mental health issues,\u201d Jazz <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nickiswift.com\/651042\/the-truth-about-jazz-jennings-tense-family-issues-due-to-her-weight-gain\/?utm_campaign=clip\">said<\/a> on Season 7 of \u201cI am Jazz,\u201d which aired in 2021.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI was actually struggling severely with mental health issues,\u201d Jazz added. \u201cI started binge-eating and I gained weight and more weight and more weight. And now, almost 100 pounds heavier, here I am today.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In June of that year, Jazz, then about 234 pounds, posted side-by-side photos of the weight gain.<\/p>\n<div class=\"paragraph\">\n<p>\u201cAs many of you have noticed, over the past few years, I have gained a substantial amount of weight,\u201d Jazz wrote. \u201cI suffer from binge-eating disorder, a disease in which I\u2019m not only addicted to food, but I eat it in large quantities. My binging, along with an increased appetite I experience from some of the meds I\u2019m on, has caused me to gain almost 100 pounds in a little less than 2 years. I\u2019m posting this photo because it\u2019s time for me to address my weight gain and hold myself accountable.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI do experience fat-shaming from my family,\u201d Jazz said on the show. \u201cIt makes me feel really humiliated.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"instagram-media\" data-instgrm-captioned=\"\" data-instgrm-permalink=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/CQR6UkKrNrM\/?utm_source=ig_embed&#038;utm_campaign=loading\" data-instgrm-version=\"14\"><\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n<p>Jazz, though, maintains the struggles have nothing to do with anything related to gender, surgeries, or sexual issues.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy other \u2018issues\u2019 have nothing to do with me being transgender,\u201d Jazz insisted in 2018. \u201cMy depression &#038; anxiety aren\u2019t related to me being trans, nor is my binge-eating disorder. My struggles pertain to being HUMAN &#038; I\u2019m still learning to embrace my \u2018flaws\u2019 &#038; accept who I am undeniably.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">My other \u201cissues\u201d have nothing to do with me being transgender. My depression &#038; anxiety aren&#8217;t related to me being trans, nor is my binge-eating disorder.
