You won\u2019t know what hit you if you go forward with these awful decisions,\u201d the now-Senate Majority Leader shouted while flailing his arms.<\/p>\n<p>A Republican congressman on the House Judiciary Committee sees a connection between the two events.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s speculation to a degree, but almost certainly this [leak] comes from the minority on the court to disrupt or somehow produce public pressure to alter the course of deliberations,\u201d Dan Bishop (R-North Carolina) told The Daily Wire.<\/p>\n<p>That intimidation includes the specter of violence, he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is unquestionably true that there is an attempt to intimidate [justices], and whoever the actor or group that caused it, since they\u2019re willing to intimidate I don\u2019t think they\u2019d [draw a line at] threats of violence. It\u2019s very grave, when you have something like this that\u2019s never occurred before in the history of the court. Since they\u2019ll do things that are unprecedented, you don\u2019t want to just sit back and see how far it will go,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Schumer\u2019s office said his 2020 comments were \u201ca reference to the political price [Republicans] will pay for putting them on the court and a warning that the justices will unleash a major grassroots movement on the issue of reproductive rights against the decision.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>But the remarks stood out to Steve Scalise, a House Republican who saw that unleashing regular people can lead to violence when a Bernie Sanders-supporting gunman shot him as he played baseball. At the time, Scalise called Schumer\u2019s comments \u201cunhinged.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">\ud83d\udea8 UNHINGED \u2192 Schumer threatened conservative justices Kavanaugh &#038; Gorsuch on the steps of the Supreme Court:<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;You have released the whirlwind &#038; you will pay the price. You won&#8217;t know what hit you.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Enough. This rhetoric has dangerous consequences. Where&#8217;s the media outrage? <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/SiGNHxG0iX\">pic.twitter.com\/SiGNHxG0iX<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Steve Scalise (@SteveScalise) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/SteveScalise\/status\/1235299202542063616?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">March 4, 2020<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve never heard of something like this [leak] in the Supreme Court in my life,\u201d said Bishop, who is a lawyer. \u201cThe deliberation process has a lot of tradition around it. In order to maintain public trust and respect, it needs to remain sacrosanct that people don\u2019t betray the process. I can\u2019t imagine a more harmful act to the integrity of the court.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Bishop said, \u201cthe Left constantly goes around talking about threats to our democracy, but they are willing to do anything to our democracy: They\u2019re willing to pack the court, take over all power to run elections, the \u2018ministry of truth\u2019 being created in DHS\u2026 eliminate the filibuster, add states to the U.S. without going through a constitutional process, make D.C. a state. There is nothing they will not do to get the result that they want.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Supreme Court ought to investigate it internally and reveal who\u2019s responsible, and there\u2019s a certain set of circumstances under which it might be appropriate for Congress to hold such a person responsible,\u201d he continued.<\/p>\n<p>But there\u2019s \u201cnot a chance that Nancy Pelosi would do such a thing. She and Schumer issued a statement that attacked the court, just as Schumer said \u2018you won\u2019t know what hit you.\u2019 I think it\u2019s likelier that [Pelosi is] in league with whatever\u2019s been done.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Schumer and Pelosi\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.democrats.senate.gov\/dpcc\/press-releases\/schumer-pelosi-joint-statement-on-reported-draft-supreme-court-decision-to-overturn-roe-v-wade\">statement<\/a> said, \u201cSeveral of these conservative Justices, who are in no way accountable to the American people, have lied to the U.S. Senate, ripped up the Constitution and defiled both precedent and the Supreme Court\u2019s reputation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>It did not mention the effect of breaching the court\u2019s secrecy rules.
