Pramila Jayapal claimed Tuesday the Supreme Court lacks the authority to \u201cchange\u201d Roe v. Wade because it\u2019s been \u201csettled law.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Speaking on CNN, Jayapal called the leaked draft opinion that would overturn Roe v. Wade a \u201cstunning rebuke of precedent.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is a stunning, stunning rebuke of precedent and of the fundamental freedom women have to make choices about our own bodies, our own futures and our own economic security and the thing is, these justices are acting like this is somehow something they have the right to change,\u201d Jayapal said. \u201cThey do not have the right to change this, which has been settled law for two generations now of people who have grown up, have gone through their twenties, in firm belief that they can make these decisions about their own bodies.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe only thing that has changed is the makeup of the Supreme Court, the radicalization of the Supreme Court and if they can do this for this issue, it means they can ignore precedent for every other issue we\u2019ve considered settled law. So we cannot accept it. I don\u2019t think people across this country are going to accept it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe now have to work extra hard to codify Roe v. Wade in the United States Congress,\u201d she added. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/05\/03\/abortion-planned-parenthood-naral-emilys-list-center-for-reproductive-health-supreme-court-dobbs-roe\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">(RELATED: \u2018Deepest Fears Are Coming True\u2019: Abortion Lobby Plots Response To Likely Overturn Of Roe)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Despite Jayapal\u2019s claim that the <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/05\/03\/legal-experts-supreme-court-roe-v-wade-dobbs-v-jackson-womens-health\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Supreme Court<\/a> cannot buck precedent, the high court has reversed constitutional precedents at least 145 times, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/theconversation.com\/the-supreme-court-has-overturned-precedent-dozens-of-times-in-the-past-60-years-including-when-it-struck-down-legal-segregation-168052\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">The Conversation<\/a>. For example, the court\u2019s 1954 Brown v. Board of Education reversed Plessy v. Ferguson, striking down segregation.<\/p>\n<p>Politico reported Monday the court drafted an opinion in the <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/05\/03\/fascism-down-the-line-the-view-laments-roe-v-wade\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Dobbs v. Jackson Women\u2019s Health Organization<\/a> case that would overturn Roe v. Wade. The opinion, drafted by Associate Justice Samuel Alito, says \u201cRoe was egregiously wrong from the start.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe hold that Roe and Casey must be overruled,\u201d the opinion continued. \u201cIt is time to heed the Constitution and return the issue of abortion to the people\u2019s elected representatives.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Chief Justice John Roberts <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/05\/03\/betrayal-roberts-speaks-out-about-scotus-leak-announces-investigation\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">called<\/a> the <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/05\/03\/joe-scarborough-says-overturning-roe-v-wade-means-votes-no-longer-matter\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">leaking<\/a> of the opinion a \u201cbetrayal\u201d meant to \u201cundermine the integrity\u201d of the court.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Democratic Washington Rep.
