Wade<\/em>, but amidst the shrieks and slogans being chanted from the streets of Washington, D.C. by pro-choice advocates came one of the worst defenses of abortion, possibly ever, from none other than President Joe Biden.<\/p>\n<p>Biden, who claims to be a devout Roman Catholic, told reporters on Wednesday that all \u201cbasic mainstream religions\u201d have concluded that when life begins is really a question. Therefore, the Supreme Court would be wrong to overturn <em>Roe v. Wade.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>\u201cRoe says what all basic mainstream religions have historically concluded, that the existence of a human life and being is a question,\u201d Biden said. \u201cIs it at the moment of conception?; Is it six months?; Is it six weeks?\u2019; Is it \u2018quickening\u2019 like Aquinas argued?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI mean, so, the idea that we\u2019re going to make a judgment that is going to say that, no one can make the judgment to chose to abort a child based on a decision by the Supreme Court, I think, goes way overboard,\u201d the president added.<\/p>\n<p>His comments can be seen here:<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Every defense of abortion is incoherent, but this one somehow manages to stand out <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/x9FMIkgomW\">https:\/\/t.co\/x9FMIkgomW<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Best Selling Biologist Matt Walsh (@MattWalshBlog) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/MattWalshBlog\/status\/1521522305242968065?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">May 3, 2022<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>As The Daily Wire\u2019s Matt Walsh argued, \u201cEvery defense of abortion is incoherent, but this one somehow manages to stand out.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Indeed, Biden\u2019s remarks were incoherent. They also flew in the face of his previous statements regarding the beginning of life.\u00a0 In order to avoid delving into various mainstream religions\u2019 answers on when life begins, let\u2019s take a look at what the president\u2019s own faith, Catholicism, has to say about it.<\/p>\n<p>In 2012, as vice president, Biden affirmed the Catholic Church\u2019s teaching that life begins at the moment of conception.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWith regard to abortion, I accept my Church\u2019s position on abortion as a, what we call a de fide doctrine, life begins at conception that\u2019s the church\u2019s judgment, I accept it in my personal life, but I refuse to impose it on equally devout Christians, and Muslims, and Jews. And I just refuse to impose that on others, unlike my friend here, the congressman.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI do not believe that we have a right to tell other people that, women, they can\u2019t control their body. It\u2019s a decision between them and their doctor. In my view of the Supreme Court, I\u2019m not going to interfere with that.\u201d<\/p>\n[embedded content]\n<p>Biden was correct back in 2012. The Church <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/on-ash-wednesday-catholic-president-joe-biden-defends-supporting-abortion\">has taught for centuries<\/a> that life starts at the moment of conception. That doctrine has not changed since he made those remarks nearly a decade ago.<\/p>\n<p>As for the legal implications of a possible decision to overturn Roe based on the leaked opinion, Biden\u2019s answer is also a headscratcher. Nothing in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/5-key-takeaways-from-the-leaked-majority-opinion-draft-overruling-roe-v-wade\">Justice Samuel Alito\u2019s draft indicated<\/a> that the court would outlaw abortion entirely in this ruling.\u00a0 It does not say \u201cno one can make a judgment\u201d on whether or not to get an abortion. The decision to legalize abortion or not would simply be sent back down to the states.\u00a0 So, in theory, California could legalize abortion while Florida may choose to outlaw it entirely.<\/p>\n<p>Overturning Roe could potentially pave the way for a future Supreme Court case to grant the baby in the womb full personhood from the moment of conception, but Biden\u2019s framing of the leaked opinion simply is not legally accurate as it currently stands.<\/p>\n<p>For a guy who was caught\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/archive\/politics\/1987\/09\/18\/biden-admits-plagiarizing-in-law-school\/53047c90-c16d-4f3a-9317-a106be8f6102\/\">plagiarizing in law school<\/a>, and one who claims to have such deep Catholic faith, Biden clearly doesn\u2019t understand the law or his Church\u2019s teaching on the topic of abortion \u2014 or worse, he does understand both of those issues and is choosing to ignore them for political gain.<\/p>\n<p><em>The views expressed in this piece are the author\u2019s own and do not necessarily represent those of The Daily Wire.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>The Daily Wire is one of America\u2019s fastest-growing conservative media companies for breaking news, investigative reporting, sports, podcasts, in-depth analysis, books, and entertainment for a reason: because we believe in what we do.
