Tom Cotton introduced a bill on Tuesday that would ban federal funding from being used to launch President Joe Biden\u2019s Disinformation Governance Board within the Department of Homeland Security.<\/p>\n<p>Cotton was joined in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cotton.senate.gov\/download\/disinformation-board-bill-text\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">legislation<\/a> with support from a team of 18 co-sponsors among the Senate\u2019s Republicans.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Biden administration wants a government agency dedicated to cracking down on what its subjects can say, an idea popular with Orwellian governments everywhere. This board is unconstitutional and un-American\u2014my bill puts a stop to it,\u201d Cotton said in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cotton.senate.gov\/news\/press-releases\/cotton-colleagues-introduce-legislation-to-defund-homeland-securitys-disinformation-board\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">statement<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Florida Republican Sen. Marco Rubio, one of the bill\u2019s co-sponsors, also called for the defunding of the Disinformation Governance Board in an op-ed published on Tuesday in the National Review.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI have lived my entire life around people who fled from countries ruled by Marxist dictators. They came to America because it is a free country, as their homelands once were. Theirs is a cautionary tale, and we are fooling ourselves if we think that can\u2019t change,\u201d Rubio <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nationalreview.com\/2022\/05\/defund-president-bidens-censorship-bureau\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">wrote<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA government disinformation board led by a person who \u2018shudder[s]\u2019 at the thought of \u2018free speech . . . absolutists\u2019 is a step toward tyranny. It must be stopped. It has to be defunded. And I will do everything I can to ensure that this assault on our freedom does not stand,\u201d the senator added.<\/p>\n<p>Missouri Republican Sen. Josh Hawley, another opponent of the board, called for the abolishment of the proposed board.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCongress must act now to abolish this censorship board and prevent any future President who doesn\u2019t believe in the Constitution from ever trying it again,\u201d he tweeted.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Too late. I will introduce legislation this week to eliminate the Board and forbid the government ever to create another one. It\u2019s time to stand up for free speech,\u201d the senator <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/HawleyMO\/status\/1521156527649968130\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">wrote<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Nina Jankowicz has been selected as the director for the Biden initiative within the DHS.
