Wade\u00a0<\/em>decision that legalized abortion on demand in the U.S., returning laws regarding abortion restrictions to individual states.<\/p>\n<p>House Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA), Republican Whip Steve Scalise (R-LA), and Republican Conference Chair Elise Stefanik (R-NY) released a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.republicanleader.gov\/house-gop-leaderships-statement-on-unprecedented-scotus-leak\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">statement<\/a> in response to the unprecedented leak of the Supreme Court\u2019s upcoming opinion.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYesterday\u2019s unprecedented leak is an attempt to severely damage the Supreme Court. Elise Stefanik (@RepStefanik) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/RepStefanik\/status\/1521503998775283713?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">May 3, 2022<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The leak was first <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/2022\/05\/02\/supreme-court-abortion-draft-opinion-00029473\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">published<\/a> by Politico on Monday evening.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe hold that\u00a0<i>Roe<\/i>\u00a0and\u00a0<i>Casey<\/i> must be overruled,\u201d Justice Samuel Alito wrote in the document, labeled as the \u201cOpinion of the Court.\u201d \u201cIt is time to heed the Constitution and return the issue of abortion to the people\u2019s elected representatives.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The leaked draft also shows that Alito called <em>Roe\u00a0<\/em>wrong from the start.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<i>Roe<\/i>\u00a0was egregiously wrong from the start. Its reasoning was exceptionally weak, and the decision has had damaging consequences.
