Wade<\/em> is likely imminent, President Joe Biden threatened that his administration was prepared to undo the high court\u2019s ruling.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI directed my Gender Policy Council and White House Counsel\u2019s Office to prepare options for an Administration response to the continued attack on abortion and reproductive rights, under a variety of possible outcomes in the cases pending before the Supreme Court,\u201d Biden said in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/briefing-room\/statements-releases\/2022\/05\/03\/statement-by-president-joe-biden-4\/\">statement<\/a> Tuesday morning. \u201cWe will be ready when any ruling is issued.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The ardent defense of <em>Roe<\/em> from the nation\u2019s most powerful office stands in stark contrast to Biden\u2019s past attempts to override the 1973 landmark abortion case while he was a senator from Delaware. <\/p>\n<p>One month before Biden jumped into the crowded 2020 race for president, The New York Times <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2019\/03\/29\/us\/politics\/biden-abortion-rights.html\">outlined<\/a> his record on abortion over his decades-long career. Biden was sworn into the Senate the same year the Supreme Court decided <em>Roe v. Wade<\/em>. In 1982, Biden, who was then ranking member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, supported a constitutional amendment to overturn the decision that his own White House is now pledging to protect 40 years later. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m probably a victim, or a product, however you want to phrase it, of my background,\u201d Biden said at the time. Biden called his key vote \u201cthe single most difficult vote I\u2019ve cast as a U.S. senator.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The incumbent president\u2019s abortion record would become anything but consistent throughout his career in Washington. He supported federal restrictions before opposing them based on the political headwinds. <\/p>\n<p>National Review Senior Writer and former Federalist Senior Editor David Harsanyi highlighted on Twitter a 1994 letter from Biden where the future president bragged about opposing abortion funding 50 separate times. <\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/davidharsanyi\/status\/1521490934810226696?s=20&#038;t=Fez1iu3EJEU9gB_n2bQb0Q\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"899\" height=\"817\" src=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/Harsanyi-Post.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-271811\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/Harsanyi-Post.jpg 899w, https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/Harsanyi-Post-300x273-1.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/Harsanyi-Post-768x698-1.jpg 768w\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n<p>Biden, whose faith as a Roman Catholic was routinely <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/politics\/politics-news\/biden-america-s-most-prominent-catholic-church-s-most-conservative-n1282753\">amplified<\/a> by a friendly press throughout the 2020 contest, also voted for the Partial-Birth Abortion Act of 2003 and was described as a \u201creliable ally\u201d of similar legislation in the \u201990s. In fact, Biden complained that allowing partial-birth abortions didn\u2019t go far enough.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt did not, as I would have liked, ban all post-viability abortions,\u201d Biden said on the Senate floor of a proposal in 1997.<\/p>\n<p>When running for president in 2019, Biden <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2019\/06\/06\/us\/politics\/joe-biden-hyde-amendment.html\">reversed<\/a> his four-decade support for the Hyde Amendment, which bars federal funding for abortion, the same week he professed his commitment to its protection. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf I believe health care is a right, as I do, I can no longer support an amendment that makes that right dependent on someone\u2019s ZIP code,\u201d the former vice president said in Georgia to court the party faithful.<\/p>\n<p>Biden\u2019s flip to support the killing of babies in the womb has been controversial given his claims to be a faithful Roman Catholic. The church finds support for the procedure to be a serious violation of the faith and therefore worthy of one\u2019s denial of communion. In 2019, Biden was <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2019\/10\/29\/joe-biden-denied-communion-at-catholic-church-for-being-pro-abortion\/\">denied communion<\/a> at a South Carolina Catholic church on the campaign trail over his endorsement of abortion.<\/p>\n<p>Despite his activism to protect nationwide abortion access, the corporate press has always elevated Biden as a \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/joe-biden-second-catholic-president-jfk\/\">devout Catholic<\/a>\u201d to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2021\/06\/18\/us\/targeting-biden-catholic-bishops-advance-controversial-communion-plan.html\">ire<\/a> of bishops within the church, who have also been antagonized by the president\u2019s history of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nationalreview.com\/corner\/biden-says-he-would-rescind-exemption-for-little-sisters-of-poor\/\">persecuting nuns<\/a>. <\/p>\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\" \/>\n<p>\n  Tristan Justice is the western correspondent for The Federalist.
