Wade, calling the leak a \u201cbetrayal\u201d meant to \u201cundermine the integrity\u201d of the court.<\/p>\n<p>The court issued the <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/SCOTUSblog\/status\/1521509850181742592?s=20&#038;t=4jsZdFSJOhoQxFaJNVdZkA\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">statement<\/a> Tuesday morning just hours after <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/2022\/05\/02\/supreme-court-abortion-draft-opinion-00029473\">Politico reported<\/a> the court drafted an opinion in the Dobbs v. Jackson Women\u2019s Health Organization case that would overturn Roe v. Wade.<\/p>\n<p>The court noted Tuesday that \u201cJustices circulate draft opinions internally as a routine and essential part of the Court\u2019s confidential deliberative work.\u201d The court confirmed the authenticity of the document but noted it \u201cdoes not represent a decision by the Court or the final position of any member on the issues of the case.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Roberts also issued a statement lambasting the <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/05\/03\/liberal-media-melts-down-supreme-court-decision\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">leak<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTo the extent this betrayal of the confidence of the Court was intended to undermine the integrity of our operations, it will not succeed,\u201d Roberts wrote. \u201cThe work of the Court will not be affected in any way.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">JUST IN: The Supreme Court confirms the authenticity of the draft opinion revealed last night by Politico. Court employees have an exemplary and important tradition of respecting the confidentiality of the judicial process and upholding the trust of the Court.\u201d <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/05\/02\/supreme-court-overturn-roe-v-wade-dobbs-jackson-womens-health-abortion\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">(RELATED: \u2018Gravest, Most Unforgivable Sin\u2019: SCOTUS Leak Decried By Court Watchers)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis was a singular and egregious breach of that trust that is an affront to the Court and the community of public servants who work here,\u201d Roberts continued. \u201cI have directed the Marshal of the Court to launch an investigation into the source of the leak.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The opinion, drafted by Associate Justice Samuel Alito, says \u201cRoe was egregiously wrong from the start,\u201d Politico reported.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe hold that Roe and Casey must be overruled,\u201d the opinion continued. \u201cIt is time to heed the Constitution and return the issue of abortion to the people\u2019s elected representatives.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Roberts has yet to cast his vote, but conservative justices Clarence Thomas, Brett Kavanaugh, Neil Gorsuch and Amy Coney Barrett signed onto Alito\u2019s opinion. Justices Stephen Breyer, Elena Kagan and Sonia Sotomayor dissented, according to Politico.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/05\/17\/supreme-court-abortion-case-mississippi-roe-wade-dobbs-jackson-womens-health\/\">case<\/a> in question dates back to 2018. Jackson Women\u2019s Health Organization, the only licensed abortion clinic in Mississippi, filed a suit challenging the Gestational Age Act, which is a state law banning a majority of abortions after 15 weeks of pregnancy.<\/p>\n<p>A federal district court and appeals court <a href=\"https:\/\/reproductiverights.org\/appeals-court-strikes-down-mississippi-15-week-abortion-ban\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">ruled against<\/a> the state of Mississippi and the Supreme Court agreed to hear the case in May of 2021.
