Chief Justice orders investigation: <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/S1X5nwwfMB\">pic.twitter.com\/S1X5nwwfMB<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Lawrence Hurley (@lawrencehurley) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/lawrencehurley\/status\/1521508953259130880?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">May 3, 2022<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<\/figure>\n<\/section>\n<section data-v-f313b7e6=\"\">\n<p>The statement from the Court reads: &#8220;Yesterday, a news organization published a copy of a draft opinion in a pending case.&#8221; The news was first reported by <em><a href=\"https:\/\/thepostmillennial.com\/supreme-court-votes-to-overturn-roe-v-wade-according-to-leaked-draft-decision-report\">Politico<\/a>.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/section>\n<section data-v-f313b7e6=\"\">\n<p>&#8220;Justices circulate draft opinions internally as a routine and essential part of the Court&#8217;s confidential deliberative work. Although the document described in yesterday&#8217;s reports is authentic, it does not represent a decision by the Court or the final position of any member on the issues in the case. <\/p>\n<\/section>\n<section data-v-f313b7e6=\"\">\n<p>Chief Justice John G. Roberts, Jr., also provided a statement: &#8220;To the extent this betrayal of the confidences of the Court was intended to undermine the integrity of our operations, it will not succeed. <\/p>\n<\/section>\n<section data-v-f313b7e6=\"\">\n<p>&#8220;The work of the Court will not be affected in any way. We at the Court are blessed to have a workforce \u2013 permanent employees and law clerks alike \u2013 intensely loyal to the institution and dedicated to the rule of law. Court employees have an exemplary and important tradition of respecting the confidentiality of the judicial process and upholding the trust of the Court. <\/p>\n<\/section>\n<section data-v-f313b7e6=\"\">\n<p>&#8220;This was a singular and egregious breach of that trust that is an affront to the Court and the community of public servants who work here. on into the source of the I have directed the Marshal of the Court to launch an investigation into the source of the leak.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<section data-v-f313b7e6=\"\">\n<p>The leak has garnered a lot of attention from those on the left, including President Joe Biden, Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, and New York Senator Chuck Schumer.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<section data-v-f313b7e6=\"\">\n<p>In a statement prior to the leaked documents verification, Biden said that his administration strongly supports Roe v Wade, saying that it&#8217;s based on a &#8220;long line of precedent recognizing &#8216;the Fourteenth Amendment&#8217;s concept of personal liberty&#8217;&#8230; against government interference with intensely personal decisions.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<section data-v-f313b7e6=\"\">\n<p>&#8220;I believe that a woman&#8217;s right to choose is fundamental, Roe has been the law of the land for almost fifty years, and basic fairness and the stability of our law demand that it not be overturned,&#8221; <a href=\"https:\/\/thepostmillennial.com\/biden-demands-americans-elect-more-pro-choice-slams-scotus-for-draft-ruling\">he wrote.<\/a><\/p>\n<\/section>\n<section data-v-f313b7e6=\"\">\n<p>Cortez was more direct, saying that it was time to &#8220;leave it all on the field&#8221; and amend America&#8217;s constitution to include it.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<section data-v-f313b7e6=\"\">\n<p>&#8220;People elected Democrats precisely so we could lead in perilous moments like these- to codify Roe, hold corruption accountable, &#038; have a President who uses his legal authority to break through Congressional gridlock on items from student debt to climate,&#8221; she wrote in a tweet.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<section data-v-f313b7e6=\"\">\n<p>&#8220;If we don\u2019t, what message does that send? We can\u2019t sit around, finger point, &#038; hand wring as people\u2019s futures + equality are on the line.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<section data-v-f313b7e6=\"\">\n<p>&#8220;It\u2019s time to be decisive, lead with confidence, fight for a prosperous future for all and protect the vulnerable.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<section data-v-f313b7e6=\"\">\n<p>Speaking on the Senate floor, <a href=\"https:\/\/thepostmillennial.com\/sen-schumer-condemns-scotus-draft-opinion-overturning-roe-v-wade\">Schumer<\/a> said this morning, &#8220;Last night, a report disclosed that a conservative majority of the United States Supreme Court is ready to overturn Roe v Wade, and uproot decades of precedent affirming a woman&#8217;s right to an abortion.
