Wade<\/em> via its opinion in the <em>Dobbs v. Jackson<\/em> <em>Women\u2019s Health Organization<\/em> case that is scheduled to be announced in June. Biden\u2019s statement didn\u2019t remark on the unprecedented and controversial nature of the draft leaking in the first place.<\/p>\n<p>Late Monday evening, The Daily Wire <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/breaking-supreme-court-strikes-down-roe-v-wade-decision-in-draft-of-majority-opinion-report-says\">reported<\/a> that SCOTUS\u00a0has voted to strike down the controversial <em>Roe v. Wade<\/em> decision, according to an initial draft of the majority opinion obtained by Politico.<\/p>\n<p>In response, Biden <a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/briefing-room\/statements-releases\/2022\/05\/03\/statement-by-president-joe-biden-4\/\">cautioned<\/a> the pro-abortion supporters, \u201cWe do not know whether this draft is genuine, or whether it reflects the final decision of the Court.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWith that critical caveat, I want to be clear on three points about the cases before the Supreme Court,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>The president, who has voiced his support for upholding <em>Roe<\/em>, issued a three-point plan for protecting the so-called right to abortion in America.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFirst, my administration argued strongly before the Court in defense of <em>Roe v. Wade.\u00a0<\/em>We said that\u00a0<em>Roe\u00a0<\/em>is based on \u2018a long line of precedent recognizing \u2018the Fourteenth Amendment\u2019s concept of personal liberty\u2019\u2026 against government interference with intensely personal decisions,\u201d Biden said in his statement. \u201cI believe that a woman\u2019s right to choose is fundamental, <em>Roe\u00a0<\/em>has been the law of the land for almost fifty years, and basic fairness and the stability of our law demand that it not be overturned.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He also stated that he called upon the White House Gender Policy Counsel to \u201cprepare options\u201d if the purported ruling actually comes down in June.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSecond, shortly after the enactment of Texas law SB 8 and other laws restricting women\u2019s reproductive rights, I directed my Gender Policy Council and White House Counsel\u2019s Office to prepare options for an Administration response to the continued attack on abortion and reproductive rights, under a variety of possible outcomes in the cases pending before the Supreme Court. We will be ready when any ruling is issued,\u201d he stated.<\/p>\n<p>Lastly, Biden called upon all pro-choice federal elected officials to work to codify the right to abortion into federal law.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThird, if the Court does overturn <em>Roe,\u00a0<\/em>it will fall on our nation\u2019s elected officials at all levels of government to protect a woman\u2019s right to choose,\u201d he added. \u201cAnd it will fall on voters to elect pro-choice officials this November. Daily Wire Editor Emeritus Ben Shapiro surmised on Monday evening that \u201cThe perverse attempt to create public pressure against the Court by leaking this opinion should be prosecutable.
