Wade<\/em> after an initial draft of the majority opinion that would overturn the controversial ruling leaked on Monday night.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The draft, written by Justice Samuel Alito and leaked by <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/2022\/05\/02\/supreme-court-abortion-draft-opinion-00029473\"><span>Politico<\/span><\/a><span>, is described by the outlet as \u201ca full-throated, unflinching repudiation of the 1973 decision which guaranteed federal constitutional protections of abortion rights and a subsequent 1992 decision \u2014 <em>Planned Parenthood v. Casey<\/em> \u2014 that largely maintained the right.\u201d Alito reportedly writes that \u201cRoe was egregiously wrong from the start\u201d and that \u201cwe hold that Roe and Casey must be overruled.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>In response, a number of Democratic officials called for Congress to \u201ccodify\u201d <em>Roe v. Wade<\/em> \u2014 a position that aligns with the official <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/briefing-room\/statements-releases\/2021\/01\/22\/statement-from-president-biden-and-vice-president-harris-on-the-48th-anniversary-of-roe-v-wade\/\"><span>platform<\/span><\/a><span> of the Biden administration.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cPeople elected Democrats precisely so we could lead in perilous moments like these- to codify Roe, hold corruption accountable, &#038; have a President who uses his legal authority to break through Congressional gridlock on items from student debt to climate,\u201d Rep. Six lawmakers did not vote, while Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV) opposed the bill alongside his Republican colleagues.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>According to a press release published last year by Sen. Tammy Baldwin (D-WI), the Women\u2019s Health Protection Act \u2014 which already passed the House of Representatives \u2014 would \u201cguarantee equal access to abortion everywhere\u2026 free from medically unnecessary restrictions that interfere with a patient\u2019s individual choice or the provider-patient relationship.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Among other state-level actions, Baldwin\u2019s release <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/pramila-jayapal-wants-to-end-the-filibuster-codify-roe-v-wade-at-the-federal-level\"><span>referenced<\/span><\/a><span> an attempt to ban abortion completely in Oklahoma. The activists behind this effort explained that there is no right to abortion to which state governments must bow.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cThat abortion supporters are working to codify legal abortion federally is only further confirmation of the obvious: abortion is not a right recognized by the Constitution or federal statute,\u201d <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/freethestates.org\/\"><span>Free The States<\/span><\/a><span> communications director James Silberman told The Daily Wire last year. \u201cThere is no federal right to abortion, and there is nothing resembling a right to abortion.
