Russian forces are now focused on \u201cliberating\u201d the Donbas region of Ukraine, with almost all Russian soldiers now relocated from central Ukraine to the east.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>What is the Phoenix Ghost?<\/b>\n<\/p>\n<p><span>The <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.wionews.com\/photos\/phoenix-ghost-key-features-us-sends-secretive-new-suicide-drone-to-ukraine-475445#phoenix-ghost-loitering-munition-475432\"><span>Phoenix Ghost drone system<\/span><\/a><span> is an unmanned aerial vehicle and loitering munition. Single-use, these drones are designed to target and attack enemy vehicles and military equipment and will function in a similar way as the popular <a href=\"https:\/\/www.19fortyfive.com\/2022\/04\/switchblade-will-u-s-soldiers-train-ukraine-to-use-them-against-russia\/\">Switchblade drone<\/a> already in use in Ukraine.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The new drone was designed to be lower-cost, and for Ukrainian soldiers to be able to use the drones with minimal training. According to the Biden administration, the Phoenix Ghost will be easy for Ukrainian soldiers to begin using right away.<\/span>\n<\/p>\n<p><span>No specifications or details about the new vehicle have been released. The United States government is remaining tight-lipped about the weapon\u2019s capabilities, likely to give Ukraine as much of a tactical advantage against the Russians as possible.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The Pentagon kept the development of the aerial vehicle, which began before the February 24 invasion of Ukraine, quiet. When asked about the development of the vehicle, (Ret). Air Force Lt. Colonel Brian Raduenz said that he cannot \u201ctalk about details.\u201d<\/span>\n<\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cI have to refer you to the remarks that John Kirby made about this,\u201d he said.<\/span>\n<\/p>\n<p><span>On April 21, Pentagon spokesman John Kirby <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.stripes.com\/theaters\/us\/2022-04-30\/phoenix-ghost-secretive-suicide-drone-developed-california-headed-ukraine-5853246.html\"><span>said<\/span><\/a><span> that the drone system was \u201cdesigned for tactical operations.\u201d<\/span>\n<\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cIn other words, largely, but not exclusively, to attack targets\u2026\u201d Kirby said. \u201cIt can also be used to give you a sire picture of what it is seeing, of course, but its principal focus is attack\u201d.\u201d<\/span>\n<\/p>\n<p><span>Kirby himself compared the new drone to the Switchblade and said that it is designed to do the same thing. At this stage, though, that\u2019s all we know about the new vehicle.<\/span>\n<\/p>\n<p><b>Phoenix Ghost \u2013 Ukrainian Soldiers Have Yet To Be Trained<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span>According to one U.S. official, the training of Ukrainian troops to use the new weapon has not yet started.\u00a0<\/span>\n<\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cWe believe that the first tranche of those drones should be arriving in the region today, but not all 121. the first tranche of them will be arriving in the region today,\u201d an official told reporters on Friday.<\/span>\n<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_42654\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\">\n<p id=\"caption-attachment-42654\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Switchblade drone. We do believe that training will not take very long for pilots that have some existing UAV knowledge.\u201d<\/span>\n<\/p>\n<p><span>Some of the training of Ukrainian soldiers is expected to be carried out by members of the Florida National Guard who were withdrawn from Ukraine in February as the invasion neared.
