Wade in efforts to intimidate and pressure the justices, pro-life advocates say.<\/p>\n<p>POLITICO<a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/2022\/05\/02\/supreme-court-abortion-draft-opinion-00029473\"> broke the news<\/a> Monday that the Supreme Court has voted to strike down the landmark decision, reporting that Justice Samuel Alito had written a draft that is an \u201cunflinching repudiation\u201d of Roe v Wade.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe leak appears to be totally political in nature, not only intended to damage the Court and pressure the justices, but more immediately to incite Democrats to push their laundry list of terrible anti-life ideas, including blowing up the filibuster and attempting to codify abortion violence at the federal level prior to the November elections,\u201d Katie Glenn, Government Affairs Counsel at Americans United for Life (AUL), told The Daily Wire.<\/p>\n<p>The draft majority opinion, which is not final, says Roe v Wade was egregiously wrong. \u201cWe hold that <i>Roe<\/i> and <i>Casey<\/i> must be overruled,\u201d Alito wrote. \u201cIt is time to heed the Constitution and return the issue of abortion to the people\u2019s elected representatives.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Carrie Severino, president of the Judicial Crisis Network, pointed out the danger the leak poses to the institutional integrity of the Court. \u201cThat type of leak is an outrageous betrayal of trust,\u201d she told The Daily Wire.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<span>The Supreme Court is the only institution in town that doesn\u2019t leak, and to do this is a real attack on the institution of the court. Not to mention just an outrageous breach of trust to the justices to do so,\u201d she said.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>AUL\u2019s chief legal officer and general counsel, Steven Aden, said it was \u201coutrageous\u201d that the draft language was leaked, \u201cpresumably by pro-abortion staffers within the Court.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is a cynical and naked attempt to pressure justices to alter course in Dobbs and to perpetuate abortion violence,\u201d he said. \u201cThe Court should maintain the moral high ground, stick to the clear and courageous language this draft opinion, and not allow itself to be ruled by the expectations of pro-abortion activists or proxy media allies.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The leak has sent shockwaves throughout Washington, with many noting that the leaks at the Supreme Court are rare, and even more rare that they would be of this caliber.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">It\u2019s impossible to overstate the earthquake this will cause inside the Court, in terms of the destruction of trust among the Justices and staff. This leak is the gravest, most unforgivable sin.<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 SCOTUSblog (@SCOTUSblog) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/SCOTUSblog\/status\/1521295411545260035?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">May 3, 2022<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>In a <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/SenSchumer\/status\/1521328057767890946?ref_src=twsrc%5Egoogle%7Ctwcamp%5Eserp%7Ctwgr%5Etweet\">joint statement<\/a>, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) said overturning Roe v Wade would be \u201cone of the worst and most damaging decisions in modern history.\u201d They also accused unnamed conservative justices of lying to the U.S. Senate and ripping up the Constitution.<\/p>\n<p>SBA List President Marjorie Dannenfelser, however, told The Daily Wire that, if the draft ends up being the final court opinion, they applaud the decision wholeheartedly.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe American people have the right to act through their elected officials to debate and enact laws that protect unborn children and honor women,\u201d she said. \u201cIf Roe is indeed overturned, our job will be to build consensus for the strongest protections possible for unborn children and women in every legislature.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe also recognize the need for the pro-life movement to continue its existing work to support pregnant women and children in need.
