A spokesperson for an Italian fire department confirmed that the\u00a0<span class=\"il\">bus<\/span>\u00a0was fueled by methane.<\/p>\n<p><span><strong>Fact Check:\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>The Facebook post allegedly shows an electric transport bus with flames erupting from it. \u201cHAPPENING NOW ; KENYA ELECTRIC BUS IS ON FIRE ALONG KAREN ROAD,\u201d reads the caption. The post includes a link to a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=szEoQN04huM\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">YouTube<\/a> video with the same title.<\/p>\n<p>The burning bus was not an electric vehicle nor was the video taken in Kenya. An internet search reveals the bus featured in the video was methane-fueled and the incident occurred April 16 in the Italian city of Perugia, according to Italian news outlet <a href=\"https:\/\/quotidianodellumbria.it\/cronaca\/49097\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Quotidiano Dell\u2019Umbria<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAn urban transport bus caught fire on Saturday afternoon in Perugia,\u201d reads a translated version of the article, which includes images from the scene. \u201cThe bus, fueled by methane, exploded on the Sp 344 that goes from Ponte della Pietra to the Marscianese.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Italian news outlet <a href=\"https:\/\/www.umbriaon.it\/perugia-autobus-prende-fuoco-il-video-fa-impressione\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">umbriaON<\/a> also reported on the incident and shared footage of the burning bus on its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=SdHgIT96gt4\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">YouTube channel<\/a>. The outlet likewise reported the incident occurred in Italy and that the bus in question was methane-fueled. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/checkyourfact.com\/2021\/11\/08\/fact-check-bus-ad-pediatric-strokes-covid-vaccines\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">(RELATED: Facebook Post Attempts To Link Bus Ad About Pediatric Strokes To COVID-19 Vaccines)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Stefano Pettinari, department head of the Perugia firefighters, told <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/article\/factcheck-bus-fire\/fact-check-clip-does-not-show-a-battery-electric-bus-on-fire-idUSL2N2WN1L4\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Reuters<\/a> he originally took the video of the burning bus and confirmed it was a methane-powered bus. \u201cA mechanic was testing it due to a reported failure,\u201d he said. \u201cProbably due to an electrical short, it caught fire.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>This is not the first time electric vehicles have been the subject of misinformation.
