According to authorities, it is believed that the body dates back to the 1980s, but it has not yet been disclosed how the body ended up in the barrel or in the lake.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cIt\u2019s going to be a very difficult case,\u201d Las Vegas Metro police homicide Lt. Ray Spencer <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.8newsnow.com\/i-team\/i-team-body-found-in-barrel-in-lake-mead-may-date-back-to-1980s-more-likely-to-appear-as-water-recedes-las-vegas-police-say\/\"><span>told<\/span><\/a><span> the 8 News Now investigation team. \u201cI would say there is a very good chance as the water level drops that we are going to find additional human remains.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>One twitter posted the photos of the barrel and said, \u201c<\/span><span>With the lake level dropping at Lake Mead, bodies are showing up\u2026.this could get interesting\u2026\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">With the lake level dropping at Lake Mead, bodies are showing up\u2026.this could get interesting\u2026.\ud83e\udd14 <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/Yw02aWgrBJ\">pic.twitter.com\/Yw02aWgrBJ<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Troy Warren (@chvyrod) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/chvyrod\/status\/1520969170862583808?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">May 2, 2022<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><span>Spencer added again that he believed that there would be more bodies found in the lake.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cI think anybody can understand there are probably more bodies that have been dumped in Lake Mead, it\u2019s just a matter of, are we able to recover those?\u201d he asked.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The body has not yet been identified, but Clark County Coroner\u2019s Office was still investigating \u2014 and Spencer noted that items with the body seemed to indicate that the body dated back to the 1980s.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The whole area has been experiencing an extensive drought with the levels of Lake Mead fallen under 1,056 feet, just under 200 feet below the lake\u2019s high.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The body was discovered by several people out enjoying the lake on Sunday afternoon.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cWe were docking our boat to go home and heard a woman scream,\u201d Shawna Hollister, who was at the lake, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.8newsnow.com\/news\/local-news\/i-team-sources-body-found-at-lake-mead-outside-las-vegas\/\"><span>said<\/span><\/a><span>. \u201cMy husband walked over and found the body. His shirt and belt were the only thing we could see over his decomposing bones.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Lake Mead, a byproduct of the Hoover Dam is key to the water infrastructure of the region. Its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.12news.com\/article\/news\/local\/arizona\/barrel-containing-human-remains-discovered-in-lake-mead\/75-6edddc49-de4b-4488-8a7b-ea77602cb7ea\">system<\/a>, which includes other lakes, provides water to several states including Nevada, Arizona, California, Colorado, and others.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cLake Mead, America\u2019s largest reservoir, was created by the construction of the Hoover Dam.
