Tim Ryan, who is running to become Ohio\u2019s next senator, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2022\/05\/02\/us\/politics\/democrats-midterms-ohio.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">told<\/a> the NYT while championing a court decision to end the mask mandate for airlines and public transportation. \u201cI think we\u2019re all tired of it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A Trump-appointed federal judge in Florida\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/04\/18\/public-transportation-mask-mandate-covid-coronavirus-overturned-lawsuit\/\">struck<\/a> down the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention\u2019s mandate in April, which the Justice Department has appealed.<\/p>\n<p>Ryan has framed himself as a moderate candidate, focusing on rebuilding the middle class and making the U.S. competitive with China, according to the NYT. His <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/03\/29\/tim-ryan-china-ad-ohio-senate-donald-trump\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">first campaign ad<\/a> of the 2022 election cycle featured Ryan calling out \u201cWashington\u201d for \u201cwasting our time on stupid fights\u201d while \u201cChina is out-manufacturing us left and right.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Ryan cited <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/03\/10\/bureau-labor-statistics-inflation-consumer-price-index\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">inflation<\/a> as the biggest problem facing the Democratic Party and he\u2019s one of only seven Democratic candidates to send out ads that touch on the issue, according to the media tracking firm AdImpact, the NYT reported<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBurying your head in the sand,\u201d Ryan said, \u201cis not the way to approach it.\u201d He called his party \u201ca national brand that is not seen as connected to the working-class people, whether they\u2019re white or Black or brown.\u201d <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/04\/29\/pivotal-primary-races-2022-midterms\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">(RELATED: Here Are The 12 Pivotal Primary Races Of 2022)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_7421111\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\">\n<p id=\"caption-attachment-7421111\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">U.S. Senate candidate Rep. Sherrod Brown of Ohio, Jon Tester of Montana and Gary Peters of Michigan were named as individuals Ryan would welcome to the state to advocate on his behalf, but did not provide a clear answer when asked if he would do the same for President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris, the NYT reported.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is my race. I\u2019m going to be the face of this,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Biden\u2019s approval rating has remained low amid high inflation, sitting at 42% in an April CBS News\/YouGov <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/02\/10\/joe-biden-approval-rating-new-low-40-percent\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">poll<\/a>. His approval among Americans aged 18-29 <a href=\"https:\/\/iop.harvard.edu\/youth-poll\/spring-2022-harvard-youth-poll?utm_source=Byron%20York%27s%20Daily%20Memo%20(04252022)_04\/25\/2022&#038;utm_medium=email&#038;utm_campaign=WEX%20-%20Alerts%20-%20York&#038;rid=24926579&#038;env=bf707b901b554730181bbc609e50c98b17eaf84247ffc7a818b3b806c416edcb\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">fell<\/a> to 41% in a Harvard Kennedy School poll released in April, <a href=\"https:\/\/iop.harvard.edu\/youth-poll\/spring-2021-harvard-youth-poll\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">down<\/a> from 59% in spring 2021 and 46% in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dropbox.com\/s\/9530p8zsse6tsdv\/Harvard%20IOP%20Youth%20Poll_Fall%202021%20Topline.pdf?dl=0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">fall<\/a> 2021.<\/p>\n<p>Ryan has a substantial <a href=\"https:\/\/www.realclearpolitics.com\/epolls\/2022\/senate\/Ohio.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">polling<\/a> lead in the Democratic primary, which will be held on Tuesday, but will likely face an uphill battle in the general election.
