Mariant, File) \/ Associated Press)<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Newsom\u2019s office stressed that &#8220;in the long term,&#8221; the governor continues to support the closure of Diablo Canyon as the state moves to renewable energy.<\/p>\n<p>In 2016, PG&#038;E agreed to shut down the plant, which sits on a seaside bluff above the Pacific midway between Los Angeles and San Francisco, by the year 2025 rather than take on expensive environmental and earthquake safety upgrades demanded by activists and union workers.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The company\u2019s decision six years ago had recognized &#8220;California\u2019s new energy policies will significantly reduce the need for Diablo Canyon\u2019s electricity output,&#8221; but Newsom\u2019s recent suggestion signals that California does not yet have reliable enough power sources for its some 40 million population as the state has been gradually shifting to solar, wind and other renewables.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxbusiness.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong><u>CLICK HERE TO READ MORE ON FOX BUSINESS<\/u><\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>It was not immediately clear if PG&#038;E would consider reversing course to seek federal dollars to remain open beyond the scheduled closing.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We are always open to considering all options to ensure continued safe, reliable, and clean energy delivery to our customers,&#8221; PG&#038;E spokeswoman Suzanne Hosn told the Associated Press in an email.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><i>The Associated Press contributed to this report.\u00a0<\/i><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Jackie DeAngelis gives her \u2018Two Cents\u2019 on Biden\u2019s speech on renewable energy and his latest gaffe on \u2018Fox Business Tonight.\u2019 Gov.
