Disney later reversed its position under pressure from fringe groups and activist employees and its stock has since plummeted. In addition, Gov. Ron DeSantis signed into a law <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/breaking-desantis-signs-bills-into-law-that-strips-disney-of-special-powers-blocks-crt-in-schools\">a bill stripping Disney of longstanding tax breaks and carveouts<\/a> that gave its Orlando theme park unprecedented autonomy.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAfter three months in this new role, it has become clear to me that for a number of reasons it is not the right fit,\u201d Morrell said in the letter. \u201cAfter talking this over with [Disney CEO] Bob [Chapek], I have decided to leave the company to pursue other opportunities.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Geoff Morrell Out as Disney Communications Chief \u2013 After Less Than 4 Months<\/p>\n<p> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/kylXCHDKGt\">https:\/\/t.co\/kylXCHDKGt<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Christina Pushaw \ud83d\udc0a \ud83c\uddfa\ud83c\uddf8 (@ChristinaPushaw) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/ChristinaPushaw\/status\/1520148746167894016?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">April 29, 2022<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<div class=\"BoxInline-container\">\n<div id=\"BoxInline-ArticleBody-5\" class=\"BoxInline-container\" data-module=\"mps-slot\">Newcomer <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/disneys-new-spokeswoman-worked-for-biden-obama-hillary\">Kristina Schake<\/a>, a veteran of the Obama and Biden administrations as well as Hillary Clinton\u2019s failed presidential campaign, has taken over Disney\u2019s communications office and reports directly to Chapek, CNBC reported. Schake has \u201coversight for corporate and segment communications and continue to be our chief spokesperson,\u201d Chapek told Disney staff.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Morrell, a former ABC White House correspondent and Pentagon spokesman under presidents George W. Bush and Barack Obama, took the job Jan. 24 after a stint at oil giant BP. He quickly ensnared the company in controversy when he advised\u00a0Chapek to go public with Disney\u2019s reasons for not taking a stand on the Florida legislation critics inaccurately called the \u201cDon\u2019t Say Gay\u201d bill. But Chapek\u2019s open letter enraged a cadre of woke, LGBTQ employees, and the CEO soon backtracked.<\/p>\n<p>Sources close to Morrell told CNBC the executive warned the company to stay out of the controversy, fretting that it could open the door to accusations of hypocrisy due to Disney\u2019s close ties with China\u2019s oppressive communist party leadership. Morrell also worried that a stance against the Florida bill would bring withering criticism from former President Trump and DeSantis, which proved prescient.<\/p>\n<div class=\"MidResponsive-midResponsiveContainer\">\n<p>Morrell\u2019s decision to publicize its neutral stance helped trigger a backlash that then prompted Chapek to cave.
