Kay Ivey signed legislation this month to outlaw puberty blocking medications for minors. The\u00a0bill\u00a0makes it a felony, punishable by up to 10 years in prison, to prescribe puberty blockers or hormones to transgender children to help in their gender transition.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;S.B. 184 makes it a felony for any person to &#8216;engage in or cause&#8217; specified types of medical care for transgender minors. Kay Ivey and other state officials in an attempt to block the state&#8217;s new law banning cross-sex hormones and so-called &#8220;puberty-blocking&#8221; drugs for minors.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The parents and doctors \u2013 represented by a bevy of left-leaning law firms including the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC), and the Human Rights Campaign, among others \u2013 claim that <a href=\"https:\/\/legiscan.com\/AL\/text\/SB184\/2022\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\"><u>S.B. 184<\/u><\/a>, which Ivey signed Friday, violates federal non-discrimination law, including a provision of the Affordable Care Act, also known as ObamaCare.<\/p>\n<p><i>Fox News&#8217; Stephen Sorace contributed to this report.<\/i><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!
