Numerous indicators suggest it was created long after 1936.<\/p>\n<p><span><strong>Fact Check:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>The Facebook <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/marcus.sopher.9\/posts\/10228089471967763\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">image<\/a> appears to show a vintage Coca-Cola advertisement with a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.adl.org\/education\/references\/hate-symbols\/nazi-eagle\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Nazi eagle symbol<\/a> in the background. \u201cCoca-Cola ad in Nazi Germany for the 1936 Olympics in Berlin,\u201d the post\u2019s caption claims.<\/p>\n<p>The image was not created by Coca-Cola during the Nazi regime. Several indicators suggest it was created long after that. The \u201c\u00ae\u201d trademark symbol placed beside the logo did not appear until the 1950s, according to Allen Petretti\u2019s book \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/books.google.com\/books?id=JBRjDwAAQBAJ&#038;pg=PA1888&#038;lpg=PA1888&#038;dq=%221950-present%22+%22traditional+script%22+%22coca-cola%22&#038;source=bl&#038;ots=ZZFBLMtDiw&#038;sig=ACfU3U1VCWoArzdzzTTBVdQvvSQ_V4n4lQ&#038;hl=en&#038;sa=X&#038;ved=2ahUKEwjz-f3T8fvwAhUC5awKHR8tCJYQ6AEwAHoECAMQAw#v=onepage&#038;q=%221950-present%22%20%22traditional%20script%22%20%22coca-cola%22&#038;f=false\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Warman\u2019s Coca-Cola Collectibles: Identification and Price Guide<\/a>.\u201d The German phrase, \u201cCoke ist es,\u201d translated to \u201cCoke is it,\u201d also did not appear in German advertising until 1982, according to the Coca-Cola <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.ph\/Nkxqv\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">website<\/a>. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/checkyourfact.com\/2021\/12\/22\/fact-check-cnn-tweet-black-santa\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">(RELATED: Did CNN Send This Tweet About Coca-Cola Changing Santa Claus To A Black Man?)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The image shared on Facebook can be traced to a 2004 London art show in which artists were encouraged to create Nazi-themed Coca-Cola ads, according to the exhibit\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20040423001141\/http:\/\/www.mtcp.co.uk\/coca-cola\/the_challenge.php\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">website<\/a>. Approximately 400 fake pieces of advertising were displayed at the event, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/news\/media\/no-laughing-matter-comedian-advertises-cocacola-s-nazi-past-564751.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Independent<\/a> reported.<\/p>\n<p>Photographer Scott van Looy confirmed to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.snopes.com\/fact-check\/coca-cola-nazi-ad-germany\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Snopes<\/a> in June 2021 that the image visible in the Facebook image, which he took, was a submission featured in the initial exhibit.
