Maria Salazar (R-FL) slammed reporters on Wednesday after a House GOP meeting, saying that they were not doing their jobs reporting on how neo-Marxist ideologies were infiltrating various aspects of life in the U.S.<\/p>\n<p>Salazar, who was a news anchor for a television station in Miami for many years, said that there was \u201ca problem in this country with the news media.\u201d Salazar suggested that reporters were potentially compromised by \u201can ideology\u201d that made them care less about facts and more about promoting a specific narrative.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShame on the media,\u201d Salazar said. \u201cBecause we\u2019re concentrating and we\u2019re trying to look for headlines on what is not important. What\u2019s important [is] that there\u2019s a major threat in this country by what I call the socialists, or the neo-Marxists. That\u2019s the real threat.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Salazar called out reporters for online looking for a juicy \u201cheadline\u201d quote to make a news story instead of focusing on substantive issues that impact the future of the country, saying that they were doing \u201ca very big disservice to this country.\u201d<\/p>\n<div id=\"\">\n<p><em>REP. MARIA SALAZAR (R-FL): As a journalist and that\u2019s exactly what I want to talk to you about.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>REPORTER: Now you can talk to everyone.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>SALAZAR: I did this job for 35 years. 35 years, and I loved being a journalist. But you know, let me share something with you. We have a problem in this country with the news media. Because the news media is now\u2026 we\u2019re not doing our job. You know why? Because maybe we have been infiltrated by an ideology that I don\u2019t agree with. Now, I am a member of the GOP, but I\u2019m still an American. And shame on the media. You know why? Because we\u2019re concentrating and we\u2019re trying to look for headlines on what is not important. What\u2019s important [is] that there\u2019s a major threat in this country by what I call the socialists, or the neo-Marxists. That\u2019s the real threat.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Reporter: Don\u2019t you think American voters deserve to know what people are actually saying?<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>SALAZAR: Of course. Let me finish my phrase and I will answer that. So I think that all of you, us, me at one point \u2014 we have a duty that we\u2019re not fulfilling. And I know that this is not exactly what you want to hear from me. What you want to hear is the headline. But you know what? There\u2019s a moment of reckoning. Don\u2019t you feel responsible that what you guys are covering is not what the American people need to hear? Why don\u2019t we ask Madam Speaker, what did she know? No one is asking. You are not asking Madam Speaker what she knew before that event. You see? Now everyone left because you guys don\u2019t want to hear what I\u2019m saying. But I\u2019m one of you! So I know exactly what you need to do but you\u2019re just not doing it.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Reporter: But we asked leader McCarthy what he said on January 6th and they lied to us. And then there\u2019s audio.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>SALAZAR: You know this, this \u201cthey lied\u201d\u2026 People change their minds, things happen, but I\u2019m not saying that January 6th was\u2026 what happened was despicable. You cannot be storming any buildings, much less the Capitol. But then why don\u2019t we move forward? And why don\u2019t we start thinking about what\u2019s happening right now? But no, the media doesn\u2019t wanna do that because it\u2019s not convenient and doesn\u2019t produce headlines.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Reporter: So to talk about what you guys talked about in there, you talked about the border, you talked about inflation\u2026<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>SALAZAR: We talked about what\u2019s happening in this country. That\u2019s what we did. You know, this week, the Dems who have the majority, they could be presenting different types of laws to lower the price of gas, to take care of inflation, you know, the border. For us, the browns, the border is a major problem. It\u2019s giving us a horrible name. We got to fix this. But no one\u2019s talking about it because it\u2019s not convenient because the editors and the people running the networks just do not like that type of headline. And you know, that\u2019s a very big disservice to this country.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Reporter: We\u2019re just trying to figure out what happened on January 6th \u2014<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>SALAZAR: Of course. And I think that is exactly what you need to do. Investigative reporting, let\u2019s find out. But why don\u2019t we go to the other side, what did Madam Speaker know? No no no no no. The problem is you guys \u2014 \u2018don\u2019t confuse me with the facts, we don\u2019t want to hear that, no, because we\u2019re Dems.\u2019 We\u2019re Americans! We are Americans.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Reporter: (inaudible)<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>SALAZAR: Well, we need to know what she knew 24 hours, 48 hours, 72 hours before. If the Sergeant \u2014<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Reporter: (inaudible)<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>SALAZAR: I have no idea. Because I don\u2019t have a crystal ball. But I do believe that we have oversight and we have mechanisms in place to find out what anyone knew. Leadership from the Dems, leadership from the Republicans. Everyone. Cause the American people, that\u2019s their system! Otherwise we\u2019re a banana republic!<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Reporter: So you are part of the GOP \u2014<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>SALAZAR: I am part of the GOP, proudly, but that does not mean that I\u2019m not an American. I want to know everything that happened, including Madam Speaker, down.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Reporter: So did you listen to the McCarthy audio that was released?<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>SALAZAR: Sure I did.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Reporter: And what was your response, as an American?<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>SALAZAR: My response was that it was edited. You see, I know the art of editing \u2014<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Reporter: (inaudible)<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>SALAZAR: I\u2019m not sure. I\u2019m not sure in what context. But what I\u2019m saying to you is that it\u2019s not a matter of trying to find out what happened or what he said. It\u2019s the whole story. Don\u2019t you guys see it? What you guys are doing? History will judge the news organizations 100 years from now, and will say \u2018we\u2019re not doing our job.\u2019 I\u2019m not saying to cover this. I\u2019m saying to cover everything. Goodbye.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Reporter: Have you talked to McCarthy about what he said about January 6th?<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>SALAZAR: Listen. I am more concerned, not about the past but about the future. Look at the future of this country! Don\u2019t you see that there is an influence called the neo-Marxists penetrating media and academia? Don\u2019t you guys see it? And you know what that means? Ask the Venezuelans. Ask the Cubans. No no no no. Cause those people speak another language; we don\u2019t know them. Yeah, but we do know what happens when the neo-Marxists and the socialist forces infiltrate a society.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Reporter: You talked about (inaudible) banana republic. Is it concerning that at least once of your colleagues was calling on former President Trump to use martial law to overturn the election?<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>SALAZAR: I am concerned. And you know, when you\u2019re on camera, you always have to look good. Cold weather is not good with me. So I need to run now. See, I need to use tissue. But all I\u2019m saying is that if you want to come and talk to me, I\u2019m more than willing to talk to the whole news organizations. Cause you know I was one of yours. So I know exactly where you\u2019re gonna go now. How you\u2019re gonna edit it, how you\u2019re gonna cut it, come on. We got to do our jobs!<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Reporter: What about those comments? What about the fact that they are texting those things? That we have that proof? The investigative journalists have shown that.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>SALAZAR: Sure. And I just told you, the story is bigger. It\u2019s not just that. It\u2019s just what was edited. What this guy said, what the other guy said\u2026 put it into context. What happened January 6th needs to be investigated. And we have to, and everyone who had a responsibility needs to pay for it. Of course! But I\u2019m talking, the story is bigger. Not what you guys or your editors \u2014 probably it\u2019s not even you. It\u2019s the people who are running the show. They\u2019ve got to wake up and do their job. Shame on them! Shame on the news media! Concentrate on what\u2019s really happening in this country. Concentrate on everything. But not just the selective on one story. How old are you?<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Reporter: 28<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>SALAZAR: Good! You know, do your job. As a news reporter. Do yout job.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Reporter: What does her age have to do with anything?<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>SALAZAR: When you have more files you know life better. And since I did it for 35 \u2014 I\u2019m not saying that I\u2019m better than she is, no. All I\u2019m saying is that she\u2019s 28, but she\u2019s gonna be 38, 48, and 60, and get to where I\u2019m at. And then you realize what you need to do.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Reporter: But she also has the perspective as a younger person.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>SALAZAR: Of course. And this is the most noble profession on earth. Don\u2019t you think I miss it? Sure I miss it. But I know exactly what\u2019s happening behind it. And that worries me. It worries me what\u2019s happening in the newsrooms of America. Cause I belong to the American School of Journalism. And it was impeccable. It was impartial. We didn\u2019t have these commentators. We didn\u2019t have these bosses telling us \u201coh no no no don\u2019t do it this way.\u201d No! Let\u2019s do it the American way. That\u2019s why I\u2019m serving.
