Gary Palmer about the anti-racism policy, which the congressman suggested undermines confidence in physicians, Becerra replied: \u201cWe don\u2019t have a policy as you\u2019ve described. Our policy is to try to tackle the disparities that we see in healthcare access.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMuch of this is driven by the mis and disinformation,\u201d said the HHS secretary, who did not immediately respond to a request for comment from The Daily Wire. \u201cI would challenge you to show me where in our policies we call anything we are doing anti-racism policies. We are simply trying to make sure everyone has equal access to healthcare.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Becerra either purposefully misled the public on this point or is ignorant of his own department\u2019s policies, <a href=\"https:\/\/donoharmmedicine.org\">Do No Harm<\/a> chairman Dr. Stanley Goldfarb suggested: More than 1,000 pages into the Department of Health and Human Services\u2019s fiscal planning for 2022 <a href=\"https:\/\/public-inspection.federalregister.gov\/2021-14973.pdf#page=1695\">lies a proposal<\/a>\u00a0to\u00a0\u201ccreate and implement an anti-racism plan.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS)\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.govinfo.gov\/content\/pkg\/FR-2021-11-19\/pdf\/2021-23972.pdf\">listed that proposal<\/a> in the Medicare\u2019s Merit-Based Incentive Payment System (MIPS) updated rules in November 2021, citing an update that incentivizes providers\u00a0\u201cto acknowledge systemic racism as a root cause for differences in health outcomes between socially-defined racial groups.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>It appears to have <a href=\"https:\/\/www.govinfo.gov\/content\/pkg\/FR-2021-11-19\/pdf\/2021-23972.pdf\">gone into effect<\/a> in 2022.<\/p>\n[embedded content]\n<p>Goldfarb said in a statement that it is \u201chighly alarming\u201d that Becerra would deny the existence of such a rule, noting that the rule has provided \u201chigher compensations for doctors if they promulgate an \u2018anti-racism\u2019 plan.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt would be greatly concerning if Secretary Becerra was unaware of the discriminatory policies being implemented by his own department,\u201d Goldfarb told The Daily Wire on Thursday morning. \u201cMore likely, he knows that \u2018anti-racism\u2019 is deeply unpopular with the American people.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEither way, the policy is unethical and promotes the very discrimination that we have worked so hard in this country to eliminate,\u201d Goldfarb added. \u201cSecretary Becerra should immediately move to find and eliminate all race-based policies being advanced by HHS.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>That anti-racism plan would be based off anti-racism planning tools like the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cms.gov\/About-CMS\/Agency-Information\/OMH\/Downloads\/Disparities-Impact-Statement-508-rev102018.pdf\">CMS Disparities Impact Statement,<\/a>\u00a0according to the proposal, a\u00a0tool for \u201call health care stakeholders to achieve health equity for racial and ethnic minorities, people with disabilities, sexual and gender minorities, individuals with limited English proficiency, and rural populations.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The proposal cites Biden\u2019s January 20, 2021 \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/briefing-room\/presidential-actions\/2021\/01\/20\/executive-order-advancing-racial-equity-and-support-for-underserved-communities-through-the-federal-government\/\">Executive Order On Advancing Racial Equity and Support for Underserved Communities Through the Federal<span class=\"dewidow\">\u00a0<\/span>Government<\/a>\u201d and emphasizes that \u201cthis activity begins with the premise that it is important to acknowledge systemic racism as a root cause for differences in health outcomes between socially defined racial groups.\u201d<strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\"><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/USRepGaryPalmer?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@USRepGaryPalmer<\/a> asks <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/SecBecerra?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@SecBecerra<\/a> about <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/HHSGov?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@HHSGov<\/a>\u2019s highly controversial \u201cequity\u201d policy adopted last year of providing higher Medicare reimbursements to doctors who embrace woke policies.
