The legislation also includes provisions that allow students who are deprived of opportunities by athletes competing on teams that don\u2019t correspond with their sex to sue in civil court. <\/p>\n<p>The Senate\u2019s decision to keep the bill is a direct rebuke to Democrat Gov. Laura Kelly who vetoed the legislation for a second time two weeks ago <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/politics\/kansas-democrat-gov-kelly-vetoes-bill-banning-transgender-girls-female-sports-teams-legislature-showdown\">on the grounds that<\/a> it \u201ccame from politicians trying to score political points\u201d and not \u201cexperts at our schools, our athletes, or the Kansas State High School Activities Association.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>The Senate\u2019s confidence that allowing males to compete on women\u2019s teams creates unfair competitive advantages, however, may not be shared by the Republican-controlled House of Representatives. <\/p>\n<p>As House Speaker Ron Ryckman noted this week, the lower chamber is still waiting for Republicans to flip or get back to the state capitol to garner enough votes to sustain an override. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis week we don\u2019t (have the votes), we have members missing,\u201d he said. \u201cWe\u2019ll have some time to revisit both of those issues with our members.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Even Senate President Ty Masterson admitted that he had not discussed an override with House leaders, so he is unsure of the legislation\u2019s future. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cI just hope they are able to stand up for the people like we did,\u201d Masterson <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cjonline.com\/story\/news\/state\/2022\/04\/26\/kansas-senate-votes-enact-transgender-athletes-ban-curriculum-bill\/7438164001\/\">said<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The House is also delaying an override vote on a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kslegislature.org\/li\/b2021_22\/measures\/documents\/summary_sb_58_2022\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">bill<\/a>\u00a0that would give Kansas parents the right to review and contest content and curriculum in their children\u2019s classrooms and libraries. The Senate already voted to approve an override after two Republicans flipped in favor of the legislation. <\/p>\n<p>Kelly, who is up for re-election in November, said she vetoed the parents\u2019 rights bill because she believed it was too political. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cMoney that should be spent in the classroom would end up being spent in the courtroom,\u201d Kelly said. <\/p>\n<p>Masterson discounted the governor\u2019s opinion and said she is \u201clargely controlled by the hard left.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBy choosing secrecy over transparency, the governor is indicating she believes parents are the enemy and that schools have a right to hide what they are teaching our children,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/sentinelksmo.org\/masterson-vows-override-efforts-on-pbr-fairness-vetoes\/\">he said<\/a>.<\/p>\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\" \/>\n<p>\n  Jordan Boyd is a staff writer at The Federalist and co-producer of The Federalist Radio Hour.
