Honestly, if the tactic works according to their polling, why aren\u2019t Republicans doing the same thing? Demand \u2018gas justice,\u2019 \u2018grocery justice,\u2019 \u2018border justice,\u2019 and so on and so forth.<\/p>\n<p>My kids ate the last of the Cheerios this morning. I\u2019m going to demand they buy the next box because \u2026 cereal justice. It\u2019s very obvious a millennial staffer wrote this and thought it was pure brilliance. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/gjscIMQH7y\">https:\/\/t.co\/gjscIMQH7y<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Erielle Davidson (@politicalelle) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/politicalelle\/status\/1519025688220737537?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">April 26, 2022<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>That said, Markey actually has legislation, introduced in May of 2021, that seeks to combat \u201charmful algorithms\u201d and create new \u201conline transparency.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.markey.senate.gov\/news\/press-releases\/senator-markey-rep-matsui-introduce-legislation-to-combat-harmful-algorithms-and-create-new-online-transparency-regime\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">bill is called<\/a> \u2013 brace yourself \u2013 the\u00a0<i>Algorithmic Justice and Online Platform Transparency Act of 2021.<\/i><\/p>\n<p>As you might have guessed, Markey\u2019s bill contends that algorithms are racist. It seeks to address \u201calgorithmic processes on online platforms that discriminate on the basis of race, age, gender, ability and other protected characteristics.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Today we heard a lot about \u201cequitable speech\u201d and \u201calgorithmic justice\u201d from people who hate freedom (and think you\u2019re stupid).<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Seth Dillon (@SethDillon) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/SethDillon\/status\/1519169449756139520?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">April 27, 2022<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Markey believes the bill is one tool in the effort \u201cto eliminate injustice in our society.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In reality, it\u2019s an effort to corral conservative thought and opinion on social media platforms which may be the only hope Democrats have in winning elections in the foreseeable future.<\/p>\n<p>The Algorithmic Justice and Online Platform Transparency Act of 2021 currently has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.congress.gov\/bill\/117th-congress\/senate-bill\/1896\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">no co-sponsors<\/a> in the Senate which means Markey must now demand \u2018sponsorial justice.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>Similar legislation <a href=\"https:\/\/www.congress.gov\/bill\/117th-congress\/house-bill\/3611\/cosponsors\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">in the House<\/a>, introduced by Representative Doris Matsui (D-CA), currently has four co-sponsors including Squad member Rashida Tlaib (D-MN).<\/p>\n<p>Oddly enough, the bill, introduced prior to Musk\u2019s acquisition of Twitter, doesn\u2019t mention the word \u201cbillionaire\u201d once despite the fact that Mark Zuckerberg owns Meta Platforms which encompasses Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp.<\/p>\n<p>Senator Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) also called Musk\u2019s Twitter takeover \u201cdangerous\u201d noting his main crime is being a billionaire.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">This deal is dangerous for our democracy. Billionaires like Elon Musk play by a different set of rules than everyone else, accumulating power for their own gain.
