Josh Hawley grilled Biden\u2019s judicial nominee for the Eleventh Circuit for her involvement with the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) during her nomination hearing Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI have to tell you, I find your answers absolutely extraordinary,\u201d Hawley said to Nancy Abudu at the hearing. \u201cAbsolutely extraordinary. I can\u2019t believe you\u2019ve been nominated for this position. I can\u2019t believe that the president of the United States would nominate someone from this organization with this record, and I can\u2019t believe that you would sit here today and refuse to condemn this hateful, frankly, violent rhetoric.\u201d <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/03\/22\/josh-hawley-judge-jackson-child-porn-offender-scotus-hearing\/\">(RELATED: \u2018Is He The Victim?\u2019: Sen. Josh Hawley Presses Judge Jackson For \u2018Apologizing\u2019 To Child Porn Offender)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Abudu, the strategic litigation <a href=\"https:\/\/www.splcenter.org\/about\/staff\/nancy-abudu\">director<\/a> at SPLC, said she joined the organization in February 2019.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c2019 was the year the SPLC paid $3.4 million in response to defamation lawsuits. 2019 was the year Charity Watch gave your organization an \u2018F\u2019 rating. The SPLC has been labelled by the left-wing policy journal Current Affairs as an outright fraud that uses willful deception designed to scare liberals into writing checks,\u201d Hawley said.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/03\/29\/southern-poverty-law-center-racist\/\">SPLC<\/a> publishes an annual \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.splcenter.org\/hate-map\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Hate Map<\/a>\u201d which features several conservative and Christian organizations, including the Family Research Council, which was targeted in an attempted mass shooting in 2012, Fox News <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/us\/southern-poverty-law-center-christian-group-hate-map-attempted-terrorist-attack\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">reported<\/a>. The shooter, Floyd Corkins, saw the FRC on the map, which is labeled as anti-LGBTQ, in the lead-up into the shooting, CNN\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2013\/02\/06\/justice\/dc-family-research-council-shooting\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">\u201cI can\u2019t believe you\u2019ve been nominated for this position. I can\u2019t believe that the President of the United States would nominate someone from [the Southern Poverty Law Center] with this record,\u201d says <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/HawleyMO?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@HawleyMO<\/a> to Biden\u2019s latest far-left judicial nominee <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/JBI9z4YaXP\">pic.twitter.com\/JBI9z4YaXP<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Abigail Marone \ud83c\uddfa\ud83c\uddf8 (@abigailmarone) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/abigailmarone\/status\/1519350220424888320?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">April 27, 2022<\/a> <\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>\u201cThe progressive journalist Alexander Cockburn said this about SPLC: \u2018I regard it, the southern poverty law center, collectively as one of the greatest frauds in American life,&#8217;\u201d Hawley said. \u201cLiberal death penalty abolitionist Stephen Bright refused to accept an award named after the founder of the SPLC, saying in his words \u2018the SPLC has long been run by a conman and a fraud.\u2019 Also in 2019, SPLC employees told the press, \u2018We were part of a con and we knew it.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/04\/25\/josh-hawley-endorses-blake-masters-arizona-senate-primary\/\">Hawley<\/a> grilled Abudu about the organization\u2019s record and asked if she was concerned by the criticism <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/11\/19\/rittenhouse-southern-poverty-law-center-kenosha-acquittal-trial-schroeder-black-lives-matter\/\">SPLC<\/a> had received, prompting her multiple times to answer the question directly.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSenator, again, my work with the Southern Poverty Law Center has been to uphold the constitutional rights of individuals who without pro bono counsel would not be even able to have access to justice,\u201d Abudu responded.<\/p>\n<p>The SPLC did not immediately respond to the Daily Caller News Foundation\u2019s request for comment.<\/p>\n<p>Content created by The Daily Caller News Foundation is available without charge to any eligible news publisher that can provide a large audience.
