When Choudhury tried to excuse her statement by claiming she made it as an advocate, Kennedy retorted, \u201cSo when you say something that\u2019s incorrect it\u2019s okay to excuse it by saying, \u2018Oh, I was being an advocate?\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Kennedy started cornering Choudhury by asking, \u201cThis is a really simple question, Counselor. Do you believe that cops kill unarmed black men in America every day? You said it at Princeton.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSenator, I said it in my role as an advocate,\u201d Choudhury answered, sitting back smugly.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOh, okay, you didn\u2019t mean it?\u201d Kennedy asked.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSenator, I said it in my role as an advocate to make a rhetorical point,\u201d Choudhury patronized.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo when you say something that\u2019s incorrect it\u2019s okay to excuse it by saying, \u2018Oh, I was being an advocate?\u2019\u201dKennedy snapped. \u00a0\u201cWhat do you believe? Do you personally believe that cops kill unarmed black men every single day in America?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSenator, I believe law enforcement have an important and challenging job in this country,\u201d Choudhury dodged.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat\u2019s not what you said though, Counselor,\u201d Kennedy pointed out.<\/p>\n<p>Choudhury postured, \u201cSenator, I say before you here today that I do believe law enforcement have a difficult and challenging job, and I also understand the difference between \u2014\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI just think that\u2019s an extraordinary statement to make with no data to back it up.\u201d Kennedy interjected. \u201dNone whatsoever. There\u2019s no basis for you saying that, and you knew it then and you know it now.\u00a0 How could one possibly believe that you\u2019re going to be unbiased on the federal bench?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSenator, I believe my record shows that I have worked collaboratively with law enforcement in Boston, Chicago, Mississippi, and Milwaukee to solve complex problems to promote constitutional, effective, and safe policing,\u201d Choudhury answered.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYour record shows that you believe cops are guilty until proven innocent,\u201d Kennedy charged. \u201cYour record shows that if a cop \u2014 if a cop shoots a criminal it\u2019s the cop\u2019s fault, and if a criminal shoots a cop it\u2019s the gun\u2019s fault. I\u2019ve read your record. I\u2019ve read your record \u2026 and I don\u2019t appreciate you not answering the question straight up.
