What\u2019s more, the revelation from NPR\u2019s interview indicates the media played a key role in the alleged plan to stop Trump from taking office.<\/p>\n<p>David Kramer, a former State Department official and associate of late Arizona Sen. John McCain, leaked copies of the dossier \u2013 authored by former British spy Christopher Steele \u2013 to Buzzfeed News and <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2019\/03\/14\/john-mccain-dossier-steele-reporters\/\">multiple<\/a> other networks.<\/p>\n<p>Buzzfeed <a href=\"https:\/\/www.buzzfeednews.com\/article\/kenbensinger\/these-reports-allege-trump-has-deep-ties-to-russia\">subsequently<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.documentcloud.org\/documents\/3259984-Trump-Intelligence-Allegations.html\">published<\/a> the dossier on Jan. 10, 2017, about two months after the 2016 election was called for Trump, but prior to his inauguration.<\/p>\n<p>NPR later conducted a 2019 interview with Glenn Simpson and Peter Fritsch, the duo <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2019\/10\/14\/fusion-gps-founders-book-steele-dossier\/\">responsible<\/a> for hiring Steele on behalf of the Democratic National Committee and Hillary Clinton\u2019s 2016 presidential campaign.<\/p>\n<p>The interview uncovers a revelation regarding the timing of the leaked dossier. According to <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2019\/10\/14\/fusion-gps-founders-book-steele-dossier\/\">Simpson and Fritsch<\/a>, the Steele Dossier was leaked to Buzzfeed News in the hopes that it would \u201cthwart\u201d Trump\u2019s upcoming inauguration. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2018\/12\/19\/buzzfeed-mccain-associate-dossier\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">(RELATED: John McCain Associate Gave Dossier To BuzzFeed)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>From <a href=\"https:\/\/www.npr.org\/2019\/11\/26\/782908119\/fusion-gps-founders-on-russian-efforts-to-sow-discord-they-have-succeeded\">NPR\u2019s interview<\/a>, hosted by Terry Gross and titled \u201cFusion GPS Founders On Russian Efforts To Sow Discord: \u2018They Have Succeeded&#8217;\u201d:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>GROSS: Refresh our memory about when BuzzFeed published the Steele dossier.<\/p>\n<p>FRITSCH: BuzzFeed published a dossier on \u2013 excuse me \u2013 January 10, 2017.<\/p>\n<p>GROSS: So it was after the election. It could no longer affect the outcome of the election.<\/p>\n<p>SIMPSON: That\u2019s correct. But it was before the inauguration. So what we say in the book is that the person who has now admitted to leaking the dossier was apparently trying to do was to thwart the swearing-in of Trump. And he believed that if this information got out, it might lead to \u2013 somehow to Trump\u2019s inaugural being put off.<\/p>\n<p>FRITSCH: The ultimate Hail Mary pass and ill-advised.<\/p>\n<p>GROSS: Who was the leaker?<\/p>\n<p>FRITSCH: So there was a John McCain \u2013 a person who was close to John McCain by the name of David Kramer, who\u2019s a former \u2013 worked in the State Department for human rights for many years and is a \u2013 an avowed Russia hawk. He became aware of the document via Christopher Steele and his network and his former colleagues in MI6. They met with Senator McCain at the Halifax forum, which is an international forum not unlike the Aspen Institute Forum. They decided that they needed to pursue this. David Kramer flew to London; met with Christopher Steele, who showed him the dossier. Mister \u2013 Chris was wary of giving the document to David Kramer to carry on an airplane, so he asked us to hand it to him, which Glenn did.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Buzzfeed News did not immediately respond to a request for comment from the Daily Caller regarding its publication of the dossier.<\/p>\n<p>Later on in the NPR interview, Gross reiterated the news of Kramer\u2019s alleged plan, asking if it was \u201cironic\u201d that a McCain \u201caide\u201d made the dossier public. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/11\/12\/washington-post-issues-major-correction-steele-dossier-stories\/\">(RELATED:\u00a0WaPo Issues Massive Correction About Steele Dossier, Says It Can Not Stand By The Accuracy Of Two Stories)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cDo you find it ironic that it was an aide of John McCain\u2019s who made the dossier public in the hopes of preventing Donald Trump from actually getting inaugurated?\u201d Gross asked. \u201cAnd it\u2019s Lindsey Graham, one of McCain\u2019s closest friends, who has been one of the leaders trying to question the Mueller report, trying to question the research that you did and supporting Donald Trump?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think it\u2019s ironic,\u201d Simpson responded. \u201cI think it\u2019s hypocritical. And I think it\u2019s depressing that a lot of people who know better are now standing up for Donald Trump. So yes, I think \u2013 you know, the Republicans paid for the first half of our investigation, and now they\u2019re claiming it was all a Democratic hoax. It doesn\u2019t make sense.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Steele Dossier contained a number of inaccurate Russia\u2013Trump allegations.
