Some of that is private loans, but <a href=\"https:\/\/www.marketplace.org\/2022\/03\/15\/the-jurys-still-out-on-that-1-6-trillion-in-student-loan-debt\/\">$1.6 trillion <\/a>of it is in federal loans. If Biden \u201cforgives,\u201d that debt, the debt does not just disappear. It will be transferred to the American taxpayer. Your hard-earned money \u2014 assuming you pay a federal income tax \u2014 will be used to pay that debt down.<\/p>\n<p><strong>People Who Didn\u2019t Go To College But Whose Taxes Will Go Toward The Plan<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>According to the informational website <a href=\"https:\/\/www.savingforcollege.com\/article\/who-owes-the-most-student-loan-debt#:~:text=The%20highest%2Dincome%2040%25%20of,only%2010%25%20of%20the%20payments.\">savingforcollege.com<\/a>, \u201cthe highest-income 40% of households (those with incomes above $74,000) owe almost 60% of student loan debt.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Many Americans have opted to not attend college because they could not afford the high cost. Thousands chose instead to go trade schools and learn valuable skills such as plumbing or welding.<\/p>\n<p>Consider that the <a href=\"https:\/\/money.usnews.com\/careers\/best-jobs\/plumber\/salary\">average plumber made $56,330<\/a> in 2020, less than what the top 60% of student debt holders made. If student debt is wiped out for those millions of individuals, the hardworking blue-collar employee will see his or her taxes go toward paying off the debt of a liberal arts degree who majored in Gender Studies.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Americans Who Just Paid Off All Or Portions Of Their Loans<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Of course, there are those who went to college, worked their derriere off after they graduated, were financially responsible, and paid off their loans. Maybe other Americans used inheritance money or other means to pay off their debt.<\/p>\n<p>Regardless of how they did it, they kept up their end of the bargain by working toward paying back what they owed completely, and most likely will not see a penny from Biden\u2019s loan forgiveness plan. The axiom that \u201cno good deed goes unpunished\u201d remains true, apparently.<\/p>\n<p><strong>People Who Enroll And Borrow Going Forward<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Biden administration has a penchant for changing policy without a follow-up plan in place to limit any fallout from changing course.<\/p>\n<p>Consider how badly the Afghanistan debacle was handled and that the Democrats are planning on ending Title 42 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.npr.org\/2022\/04\/20\/1093529387\/as-biden-plans-to-lift-title-42-democrats-want-details-on-how-hell-address-influ\">without a clear plan in place<\/a>, which experts believe will lead to a \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/migrant-tsunami-will-worsen-due-to-title-42-rollback-former-trump-and-biden-border-patrol-chief-says\">tsunami<\/a>\u201d of illegal aliens at our border.<\/p>\n<p>Now, think of students who are considering enrolling and need to take out student loans in the future. Based on the current student-loan structure, and a lack of something concrete to replace that system, there isn\u2019t any real evidence that the student debt problem won\u2019t repeat itself again \u2014 even if current loans are forgiven.<\/p>\n<p>Thus, students who take out loans in the future will likely still be harmed by massive debt. Only those who have already taken out loans will benefit from Biden\u2019s potential forgiveness of debt.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Colleges That Don\u2019t Participate In Federal Loan Programs<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>There are some institutions that do not participate in the federal loan program. These are schools like Hillsdale College in Michigan and Christendom College in Virginia that want to be free from the shackles of big government.<\/p>\n<p>Christendom\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/giving.christendom.edu\/the-freedom-fund\/why-christendom-college-rejects-federal-funding\/\">website explains<\/a> that the college does not accept federal loans so that \u201cit is free to teach the Catholic Faith without government interference.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>If students need monetary assistance other than financial aid or scholarships, they must apply for loans from private lenders. Previous plans and proposed policies for loan forgiveness do not include private loans, meaning that private loans will not be dismissed because they were not backed by the federal government.<\/p>\n<p>Undoubtedly, graduates of non-federal loan program colleges will wonder where their relief is going to come from.<\/p>\n<p>It is reasonable to assume that future students considering taking out private loans to attend places like Hillsdale or elsewhere \u2014 while knowing a federal loan could possibly be forgiven down the line \u2014 might opt for the federally-backed institutions. Perhaps that is what Leftists want to happen.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Recently Naturalized Citizens<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>You can almost hear bachelor\u2019s degree holders from sea to shining sea saying to newly naturalized citizens: \u201cWelcome to America, now pay off my debt.\u201d It\u2019s not quite \u201cThe New Colossus\u201d poem by Emma Lazarus, but hey, welcome to Biden\u2019s America anyway. Now, pay your fair share.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Why would it make sense for an immigrant who just became a tax-paying citizen to pay off loans taken out by somebody from 20 years ago?<\/p>\n<p><strong>The Buck Stops Where?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>President Harry Truman used to have a sign on his desk that read, \u201cThe Buck Stops Here.\u201d It represented the idea that he alone was responsible for actions taken by the federal government. Under that logic, Biden would also be responsible for any action taken by the feds during his presidency \u2014 good or bad.<\/p>\n<p>So, is Biden considering forgiving student debt so that he can take credit and earn a political boost for the Democratic Party right before the 2022 elections? Polling <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/newsletters\/playbook-pm\/2022\/04\/13\/voters-want-some-student-loan-forgiveness-00024989\">indicates<\/a> that the Democratic base desperately wants Biden to use his executive authority to forgive student loans.<\/p>\n<p>According to some elected officials, the president was recently \u201cincredibly positive\u201d about <a href=\"https:\/\/www.forbes.com\/sites\/adamminsky\/2022\/04\/26\/biden-reportedly-considering-broad-student-loan-cancellation\/?sh=185bf63f4e97\">broad cancellation<\/a> in the future.
