It should not be underestimated,\u201d Lavrov told Russian state-run TV. \u201cUnder no circumstances should a third world war be allowed to happen.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Lavrov then mentioned the possibility of nuclear weapons being used. \u201c[T]here can be no winners in a nuclear war,\u201d he commented, while also stating Russia wants to avoid a nuclear war.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>According to The Sun, Lavrov specifically <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thesun.co.uk\/news\/18375080\/nuclear-world-war-real-danger-britain-nato-target\/\"><span>mentioned<\/span><\/a><span> NATO weapons shipments to Ukraine, saying they \u201cwould be a legitimate target\u201d since they aid Ukraine in its fight against Russian aggression.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cNATO, in essence, is engaged in a war with Russia through a proxy and is arming that proxy,\u201d Lavrov accused. \u201cWar means war.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba responded to Lavrov\u2019s words by claiming Russia fears their campaign against Ukraine is ending in failure. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>He wrote in Twitter post Monday, \u201c<\/span><span>Russia loses last hope to scare the world off supporting Ukraine. Thus the talk of a \u2018real\u2019 danger of WWIII. This only means Moscow senses defeat in Ukraine. Therefore, the world must double down on supporting Ukraine so that we prevail and safeguard European and global security.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Russia loses last hope to scare the world off supporting Ukraine. Soon after the order, explosions were heard near the Ukrainian city of Mariupol.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Two months into Russia\u2019s invasion, Putin\u2019s army has failed to <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/news\/world-europe-60506682\"><span>overtake<\/span><\/a><span> and control major cities such as Kharkiv in the east and the capital city Kyiv.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>This is not the first time Russia has mentioned nuclear weapons while discussing the war in Ukraine. In late March, a spokesman for Putin did not rule out using nuclear weapons to take out an \u201cexistential threat,\u201d The Daily Wire <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/putin-spokesman-wont-rule-out-using-nuclear-weapons-in-response-to-existential-threat\"><span>reported<\/span><\/a><span>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cWe have a concept of domestic security, and it\u2019s public. You can read all the reasons for nuclear arms to be used,\u201d Dmitry Peskov said. \u201cSo if it is an existential threat for our country, then it can be used in accordance with our concept.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Experts have also expressed concern over Russia possibly using nukes if it becomes clear its army will fail to take over Ukraine. <\/span><span>\u201cRussian military doctrine envisions use of nuclear weapons in a first use scenario if it is losing a conventional conflict.
