McAleer said he created the production to keep \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=ZKmNqs0LP9k\">fighting back against Big Hollywood\u2019s lies and half-truths about abortion<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The production was scheduled to premiere at the same time as another off-Broadway show \u201cOh God, A Show About Abortion,\u201d a comedy from Hollywood producers JJ Abrams\u00a0and\u00a0Ilana Glazer that makes light of killing unborn babies.<\/p>\n<p>Theatre Row had contractually agreed to host McAleer\u2019s play and even took payment for the rental but decided to drop his latest project after deeming  \u201cOh Gosnell\u201d \u201cinappropriate for children.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>Theatre Row has a history of hosting <a href=\"https:\/\/bfany.org\/theatre-row\/shows\/satan-and-god\/\">raunchy<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/bfany.org\/theatre-row\/shows\/my-mothers-severed-head\/\">violent<\/a> productions that are classified as unsuitable for certain ages. Even now, the theater is selling tickets to \u201cHitler\u2019s Tasters\u201d\u00a0which <a href=\"https:\/\/bfany.org\/theatre-row\/shows\/hitlers-tasters\/\">\u201cexplores the way girls navigate sexuality<\/a>\u201d and runs through the end of May. <\/p>\n<p>Despite the fact that Theatre Row is clearly comfortable showcasing productions geared towards adults and did not include a caveat about inappropriate content in the contract, the venue\u2019s attorney claimed in <a href=\"https:\/\/unreportedstorysociety.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/LTR-Unreported.pdf\">a letter<\/a> that Theatre Row is \u201cconcerned for the safety of our staff and our neighbors.\u201d The letter also demanded McAleer\u2019s media nonprofit The Unreported Story Society (USS) not contact anyone associated with the theater or visit the premises. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cSafety is just the new shut up,\u201d McAleer said. \u201cThey use safety as a kind of a hecklers\u2019 veto. And they use it as a cover to censor opinions they don\u2019t want, that they don\u2019t like.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>USS responded with a letter <a href=\"https:\/\/unreportedstorysociety.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Letter-to-Feldman.pdf\">slamming<\/a> the venue for spiking the pro-life play. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou are not standing up for the arts. You are not standing up for diversity of thought. You are<br \/>not standing up for free speech. Even worse, to excuse the inexcusable, you falsely and<br \/>maliciously accuse USS of fraud by making fraudulent statements,\u201d the letter stated. <\/p>\n<p>As noted by USS, Theatre Row brags about being a <a href=\"https:\/\/bfany.org\/theatre-row\/about-theatre-row\/\">\u201clively, accessible venue\u00a0for diverse audiences\u201d<\/a> but McAleer said the venue\u2019s penchant for artistic censorship suggests otherwise. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhy wouldn\u2019t they want an alternative point of view? Isn\u2019t that their mission statement?\u201d he said. \u201cThey always say they want alternative points of view until they realize people actually hold real alternative points of view.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>McAleer also said that Kickstarter refused to allow the production to fundraise on its platform because, in his words, \u201cmaking the Gosnell movie would offend their community standards.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Despite efforts to stifle \u201cOh Gosnell,\u201d the play is still scheduled to debut on May 5 at Chain Studio Theater in New York City.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOh Gosnell\u201d is not the first time McAleer has faced backlash for his artistic work. One Washington, D.C. theater <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/2019\/05\/fbi-lovebirds-cancellation-dean-cain-kristy-swanson-phelim-mcaleer-mead-theatre-security-concern-1202623603\/\">nuked<\/a> his play \u201cFBI Lovebirds: UnderCovers\u201d\u00a0about Peter Strzok and Lisa Page\u2019s secret text messages mere weeks before opening night.
